Story
Dolly Jamieson is not homeless, she's merely between permanent abodes. The 78-year-old spends her days keeping warm at the local library, where she enjoys sparring with the officious head librarian and helping herself to the free morning tea. It's not so bad, really. But it's certainly a far cry from the 1960s, when this humble girl from Geelong became an international star of the stage. As the acclaimed lead in the Broadway production of The Rose of France, all Dolly's dreams had come true. So how, in her old age, did she end up here?

With her ex soon to be married, her mum back on the dating scene, and her best friend threatening to settle down with the Most Boring Man Alive, Stevie is feeling left behind. To top it off, her old uni mate Johnno West, whom she hasn't seen for years, keeps turning up as best man at Stevie's jobs. And he is looking so good. Perhaps their youthful pact—that if they were both still single in their early thirties they'd get together—is not so crazy after all? Then the enigmatic Charlie Jones walks into the frame.

Publisher's Summary
‘Please send snaps of my dear mother and father, my sisters Sarah and Evelyn, and my bonzer little poddy calf, Zeus.’
It’s 1917, three years into the Great War, when Edie takes up a teaching post in the small Australian town of York.
Mourning the loss of her beloved brother on the Front and evading her father’s plans for a respectable marriage, she’s glad to keep busy teaching at Miss Raison’s School for Girls. After a little persuasion, Edie agrees to take part in a comfort scheme sending photos of home to the troops.
Edie’s new venture throws her into the path of the family secrets, scandals and class complexities of her new town – and a handsome, exasperating man her father would never approve of. With each new encounter, her world gets bigger and more complex, until Edie’s asked to make choices that could turn her cautious life upside down – and change the very course of history.

brilliantly put together
I've been eagerly awaiting Sasha Wasley's newest book. This story was brilliantly put together and kept me engaged for hours. I also learned a great deal about WW1. The characters were well developed and the ending was thoroughly satisfying. Thank you Ms Wasley.
