About this listen

This audio book (subtitled Smarty the Rock Star), is book 3 in a 4 part series called Smarty Pants the Fox. All 4 books are ideally suited for children aged 3-6 as bedtime stories, travel company on long car trips, or simply as a storytelling companion during the day.

As the most educated and clever fox in all of the South West of Australia, Smarty is a loveable, good hearted, slightly accident prone and adventurous larrikin. Always finding himself in tricky situations, Smarty manages to escape unscathed every time.

In this story, Jimi Hendrix and his girlfriend enter the Secret Valley for a picnic. After hearing Smarty playing guitar for all the animals in a Secret Valley concert, Jimi is inspired to write a song called Foxy Lady. Later, when Smarty learns the song has been played at Woodstock to a crowd of 200,000 people, Smarty runs away, only to fall down a deep mine shaft where he nearly drowns. Frantically, Smarty tunnels through a rabbit hole and, after a dramatic slide underground, emerges to safety near Noneycup Creek. Finally, he returns home to the sanctuary of his Secret Valley, living happily ever after, surrounded by all his animal friends.

As with all the books in this series, the narration is accompanied by Australian bush sounds and other appropriate special effects sounds—adding excitement and bringing authenticity.
