Not really a mystery. Expected a cosy murder or two but it's just a prosaic accounting of a middle aged aunt taking on some kids in the country. Not even any cute kitten stories as promised by the description provided. ;) But it was a calm and sedate way to fill the hours. Narrator gave disgruntled grandma vibes and struggled to enunciate words of three or more syllables. I'm seeing why this author isn't mentioned among the classics of her time. It has a certain charm, and I will be checking out the other work by her included in audible premium.

One complaint in the synopsis mentions troublesome kitten, the kittens not spoken of at all other than saying about what its name is… not usually my sort of thing as I don’t particularly like children and I don’t believe these children would be so well spoken and seemingly adult and nice. Nevertheless it was sweetly written not much mystery or drama. Just a story of a spinster lady getting to live life with her two nieces… of course she falls in love with them and has a little bit of the romance on the side… would’ve liked to hear more of the kitten less of the children LOL
