Story
Marissa Irvine arrives at 14 Tudor Grove, expecting to pick up her young son Milo from his first playdate with a boy at his new school. But the woman who answers the door isn't a mother she recognises. She isn't the nanny. She doesn't have Milo. And so begins every parent's worst nightmare. As news of the disappearance filters through the quiet Dublin suburb and an unexpected suspect is named, whispers start to spread about the women most closely connected to the shocking event. Story
Last night, we celebrated our anniversary. Over candlelight, we talked about the children, our work, and I was so happy, and felt so loved. But the next morning, when I check my phone, there is a message. From a friend. And a string of photos appear of my husband, Will, with another woman: walking along the street holding hands. Going into fancy hotels. Standing at a window, his arms around her, her head on his shoulder…

Story
It is the winter of 1985. Hope Farm sticks out of the ragged landscape like a decaying tooth, its weatherboard walls sagging into the undergrowth. Silver's mother, Ishtar, has fallen for the charismatic Miller, and the three of them have moved to the rural hippie commune to make a new start. But here, at just 13, she is thrust into an unrelenting adult world, and the walls begin to come tumbling down, with deadly consequences.

Publisher's Summary
In this propulsive locked-room thriller, a reunion weekend in the French Alps turns deadly when five friends discover someone has deliberately stranded them in a deserted mountaintop resort.
When Milla is invited to a reunion in the cosy resort that saw the peak of her snowboarding career, she drops everything to go. While she would rather forget the events of that winter, the invitation comes from Curtis, the one person she can't seem to let go.
The five friends haven't seen each other for 10 years, since the disappearance of the beautiful and enigmatic Saskia. But when an icebreaker game turns menacing, they realise they don't know who has really gathered them there and how far they will go to find the truth.
In a isolated lodge high up a mountain, amid a looming snowstorm, the secrets of the past are about to come to light.
Imagine Agatha Christie set in the Alps and you have Shiver, a spectacularly sinister psychological debut that delves into the competitive side of human nature. If you can't trust your friends, who can you trust?
Critic Reviews
"An absolutely gripping read and genuinely unputdownable.... Fresh, thrilling and original with complex, believable characters." (Karen Hamilton)
"A white-knuckle-ride through a dangerous world full of deadly ambition." (Erin Kelly)
"Shiver sent chills up my spine. Cancel all your plans because once you pick up this page turner, you won't be able to put it down until you've reached its shocking conclusion." (Katherine St. John)

Atmospheric and suspenseful
Brilliant! 5 friends meet together on the mountain where years before one of their number disappeared and another was tragically injured. Their reunion rapidly turns sinister when their ice breaker uncovers some long hidden secrets. Suspenseful and surprising. I really recommend this.

Found it boring
The story just kept going over the same ground. Narrator was ok but the story just didn’t have enough depth. I finished it but was disappointed. I wanted it to be much better

Well constructed and will keep your interest
I enjoy this type of thriller drama and the setting of this one brings some new ideas and interest. Nothing earth-shattering perhaps but it will hold your interest and bring plenty of surprises.
I wasn't sure about the narration at first but came to appreciate it. She reads in an almost hushed voice which suits the storyline and the setting. The quiet and stillness of the snow, the quietness of hidden secrets, fear and doubts.

Captivatins
After 10 years, Milla receives an invite to catch up with her former snowboarding buddies. However, the last time they saw each other wasn't good. Saskia was missing presumed dead and Odette was in an accident causing her to become a quadriplegic.
When Milla arrives at the reunion things take a frightening turn with the ice breaker - a handful of questions that expose infidelity, lies and a killer - but who? Trapped and realising that they aren't alone, things continue to get creepy. Is that Saskia's perfume they smell? Is she alive? They begin to doubt each other just when they need to pull together as a team to end this mess.
What a brilliant and captivating debut from Allie Reynolds! This suspenseful read will keep you on the edge of your seat. I guessed the tormentor but couldn't figure out how or why but it all comes together nicely (but not the happy ending for everyone) at the end.

What a lot of snow
So unrealistic I think although I’m not a snowboarder can’t imagine all of this could happen. The characters are not nice people. I would suggest you spend money on another book.
