Publisher's Summary

Enki Zakanin just wants peace and quiet. He's completed his mission, and on the journey back to the Kordolian Fleet Station, he'd prefer to be left alone so he can manage the literal demon inside his head. Alone.

So when a strange distress call breaks the silence, his first instinct is to ignore the signal. Why would anyone be foolish enough to broadcast an open signal in the Ninth?

My name is Layla dela Cruz. I need your help.

A human? What in Kaiin's Hells is she doing this far into Sector Nine? Now, somehow, he has to go and get her. After all, he's given her his word.

Contains mature themes.

Really Good

The second instalment in the Darkstar Mercenaries is all about Enki Zakanin and Layla dela Cruz and it all starts with a distress call from Layla who is stuck in a pod after the ship she was on is destroyed and from there the action begins albeit reluctantly by Enki who just wants to alone to deal with the literal demon inside his head but, he has given his word that he would come and rescue this human stuck in the ninth sector of all places and just to complicate things there are other Kordolians in this sector and they get to Leyla first and the action is fast paced and plain surprising at times from there. i highly recommend this audio book and the series as a whole.

Pre-ordered and not disappointed!

I love Anna Carven’s writing and I’m really happy with the narrator choice for the Dark Star mercenaries.

It was good not great

warning spoiler alert it seemed to me like the story was a bit rushed not a lot of details or interaction with the heroine and the hero just sort of like a rushed love kind of thing. The action is always good and so is the sex scenes, however some parts of the story were left kind of like a cliffhanger not really developed that's what made not so great.

Audio does NOT add to story

Kordolian First Division warrior Enki Zakanin has been acting as host to a Tharian consciousness in it’s second stage of evolution; and he’s been battling it the whole time. He just wants to be left alone, but finds himself committing to rescuing the human who sends out a rescue signal. The human woman, Layla dela Cruz, who has now been picked up by a Kordolian cruiser supporting the old regime. Enki has never spoken to any human before. Why now? Why Layla? Why does he need to stage a rescue? Re Harding’s narration: It’s pronounced Zak-a-nin NOT Za-kane-ian; the word is viGilance NOT viLigance (eternal vigilance was hard wired into their highly modified bodies).

Lukewarm listen

Each book in the Dark Star series has gotten progressively duller. This one was slow, plodding, and lacking any edge or passion. Even the narrator is tame and not representative of the fierce warriors.

Another stellar listen

I absolutely love these stories. Strong H and h. The stories just pull me along. They are irresistible. Can not wait for the next one. I also think the narrator is fabulous. Love the sound effects he makes and the different voices. Great job both of you.

If you've read Dark Planet Warriors........

Gotta Love those Kordolians, they are so HOT. FYI This series has the same characters and continues on with the 1st Division taking place shortly after the Kordolian Empire has fallen. This series is good so far but Dark Planet Warriors series was great. Here's a couple reasons I have. Unlike Dark Planet Warriors, I have yet to figure out the plot of the series. Is it just to keep humans out of hands of the evil Kordolians? Willl the "Mercenaries" AKA 1st Division, foil some grand scheme from the remnants of Kithia's Nobility? TBD Darkstar Mercenaries series has a different narrator and there are conflicts in pronunciation to Dark Planet Warriors. Names are pronounced differently, and instead of saying the Roman Numeral (RN) of the ships he says the letter, example Risval 5 is pronounced Risval Vee, same thing with (RN) 10 he says X instead of Ten, this happens with all the (RN) when saying the ships names. I was confused at first. His voice was very pleasant and besides what I stated he's done a great job. I liked they did change to a males voice and it goes well with this series. I will definitely keep on buying the e-book and audiobooks.

Whew! What a great book!

Shattered Silence is a high voltage action books that absolutely rocks! Enki and Layla are characters that are both written so well, with such depth. They stay true to their original essences throughout the book, but grow towards each other, slowly changing in just the right ways. This may be one of my favorite couples in the Dark Planet /Darkstar Mercenaries series. How can you not love intense action, an insanely masculine and protective Kordolian with a parasitic ‘ghost’ creature slowly driving him to madness, a self assured heroine who trusts with her whole heart, hot and spicy loving, sweet revenge, and an impressively unique happily ever after?! A note on the audio version: although J. F. Harding does a phenomenal job on the voices of the characters, in my opinion the interpretation of Layla’s voice was a bit odd. I found her voice to be a bit whiny and off-putting. However, I loved Enki’s portrayal so much I just ignored it and listened on!

Holy Hot Silent Assassin!

Out of all one alien romances I have read, this one was the the best. If I were ever abducted by an alien, MY GOD let it be this guy. <3 He was a death machine with a heart of a Swiss watch. Worth a credit? HELL YES, Worth the price? YES! This book was the best in the Dark Planet Warrior/Mercenaries series in my opinion. I love Strong Silent Dangerous type.

Awesome story!

I love all these audiobooks by Anna Carven! The hero in this story is a Cordolian who is part of General Arkadian’s mercenary group. He has been traumatized when he was deployed to a planet that the old empire was conquering and they destroyed the city he was in not caring he was still there on the ground. Almost dead, he eats the heart of a dying native citizen, only to have its spirit inhabit his mind. He’s traveling back to Darkstar Mercenary HQ when he hears a distress call with someone singing. He is loathe to investigate, but his curiosity draws him in. He finds out that it’s a human woman who was traveling to a resort planet when her ship was hit and destroyed by micro-meteorites. When he tells her he will rescue her, a bright light shines in her capsule window and things become much more complicated. He rushes to her rescue and I’m not going to give away any more of the story! It’s well worth your money and a listening pleasure. Narration was excellent.

Great Story in This Series

loved the Dark Warriors books, and i am glad the story continues in this series. I enjoy the way each book is a story but the overall story keeps going forward.
