Publisher's Summary

An elite forces officer with a dreadful reputation. A bookish paleontologist with a love for mysteries. An ancient stronghold full of secrets that will take both of them to unearth.

Professor Lilah Zirkander (yes, she's related to the famous pilot, and no, she can't get him to autograph your undergarments) is looking forward to a summer in the paleontology lab, researching and cataloging new fossils. But that summer takes an unexpected turn when the king sends her into the Ice Blades to a secret mine where ancient dragon bones have been discovered. Rumor has it that they're cursed and dangerous, but Lilah is more concerned about dealing with the outpost commander, a fierce officer with the temperament of a crabby badger.

As punishment for irking the king, Colonel Vann Therrik is overseeing the hardened criminals working in the remote Magroth Crystal Mines. He would like a chance to redeem himself - and escape the loathsome duty station - but nothing is going his way. Cursed fossils have delayed production, miners are trying to escape, and now a scientist has shown up, making demands on his time. Worse, she's the cousin of his nemesis General Zirkander. As if one Zirkander in his world wasn't bad enough.

Investigating the fossils leads Lilah and Vann into the depths of Magroth Mountain where centuries-old secrets lurk, and a long-forgotten threat stalks the passages. To have any chance at survival, they'll have to work together and perhaps learn that neither is what the other expected.

Shattered Past is a stand-alone novel set in the author's Dragon Blood world.

Finally on audio!

I'm so excited that that this title finally made it to audio! Buroker's Dragon Blood series just isn't complete without the story of Colonel Therrick's redemption. I loved the entire series in print, and I think Caitlin Davies does a terrific job of the narration.

I finally understand hard a** Therick!

I have loved this entire series, but this book allowed me to see into a character that actually I have learned to dislike immensely. You find out why he had his fear of witches. He has good reason. And a fear of what people will find out about his sad childhood. Someone’s special breaks that heart open. And I love to see who it is. She seems so good for him and I hope her own family can get back together and closer!

Great Supplemental Story

This is the story we needed after listening to the other books. Every question we had about Van Therrick is answered in good detail and story plot privy fashion. I wasn't too keen on his character before this book but after some back story, I enjoy him now too. I listened to the Heritage of Power books before I knew the Dragon Blood series existed so this is some back tracking that just makes the next series all the more enjoyable.

Shattered past audible book

The story was wonderful as all of Lindsay Buroker's books that I've read have been. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the narration it was robotic, which takes away from the characters and therefore the entire story. I afterthought it was a computer generated voice at first.

A Good Addition to the Series

Another excellent though shorter story to the Dragon Blood series. Enjoyed getting to know Van a little better and thought the new characters fit in well with the continuing plot. Catlin Davies does an excellent narration job as with all the previous books.

Therik and Lilah

I loved this book, it was great to hear about Therick's past and also meet more of Zirkanders family. Also discover more of what happened 300 years ago.
