About this listen

Edward III, sometimes called The Raigne of King Edward the Third, was published anonymously (as were several other Shakespeare plays) and is believed to have been written, at least in part, by William Shakespeare. The play focuses on a dispute between England and France that escalates to war. This edition is abridged and adapted into plain English and includes opening and closing commentary on the play itself.

As such, this is an original version of one of Shakespeare's lesser known and relatively underperformed works. However, on its merits, it is a valuable addition to the Shakespeare canon featuring sweeping historical themes of two kings locked in combat, combined with typical Shakespearean dilemmas with occasional romantic and sometimes comic elements. This adaptation is in plain English and included opening and concluding comments by Charlie Creed.

This is a theatrical production including sound effects and rich audio mixing performed by a full cast to bring the nuances of Shakespeare's rich characters to life. It is an important adaptation of one of Shakespeare's underperformed but important works. The production contains a full introduction and conclusion, setting the play in context and exploring its major themes. This is valuable performance of one of Shakespeare's important yet underappreciated works.
