Publisher's Summary

Lola Sexton is the writer behind Sex Says, a successful relationship column at the San Francisco Times. She's a pro at advising others on their love lives, but if there's one thing she isn't in the market for, it's love. Reed Luca is a wanderer and a jack of all trades. He doesn't believe happiness comes from a nine-to-five job, or that success is delivered through a paycheck. But opportunity often finds its way to those who aren't looking. When Reed signs up to write an anti-Sex Says relationship column, the result is all-out war.

Disappointing narration

I normally love Max Monroe’s but I just couldn’t get past the male narrator. Every time his chapters came up I would wish they would wish them away which made me lose track of the story. Unfortunately I didn’t finish this.

Sadly lacking.

I loved the Billionaire Series and always look for more books by this group of authors. I was expecting to laugh out loud at least once. Don't hold your breath. Hold on to your money. Narration is bad, too, which doesn't help. Still LOVE the other books though, and have listened to them more than once.

Adore these authors, but not this one

All the other books I have listed to from this duo usually had me cracking up and I couldn't get enough. I've listened to the Billionaires Series and St. Luke's Series and loved those books. I also plan on diving into the Jerk, Stone Cold and Maverick series, but sadly this one just fell flat for me. So much so that I stopped listening at about 40% in. There was just something missing for me. I found myself easily distracted and didn't hold too much anticipation or excitement for the next chapter. I just didn't feel drawn into the story enough to devour every chapter, nor did I desperately need to know what was going to happen next. Therefore I just gave up. Others may love this book and I wish I had since I usually do love this duo's work, but unfortunately I didn't.

These two instantly start with a hate/hate relationship that turns into a hate/lust relationship once they meet until they both give into their equal attraction to each other. They are both quirky and live by their own rules. Some of his actions were a bit ridiculous though. Since I didn't finish the book I can't go any farther into personal knowledge of the characters, book or other happenings.

As far as narration, it was just ok for me, but that may have been because I wasn't too into the book anyway.

Sex, please!

I have to laugh because these characters are absolutely perfect in their own ways. Quirky and fun, Lola Sexton is my spirit animal. Reed Luca, however, is sex personified with an contradictory opinion of everything.

The combustible chemistry and lit match take these two to a whole new level of burning. It's hot and tense but also an absolute blast. The ridiculousness is smile inducing even as I type this.

Sex Says but you need to Reed This to understand- this hate to lovers book is everything you want in a rivalry and a romance. Right, wrong, or palm reading...you will love it all!

Can't Get Enough

Max Monroe as another delightfully written audiobook.
When Reed makes a video of himself giving a tart response to Lila of her Sex Says newspaper column she explodes.. especially when she finds he as already received over 300,000 views... in one day!
She hates him.
He has yet to meet her....
Enjoy watching the sparks fly.

Good angst-free read

Overall, I think I really liked the concept of this book. It dabbled with THE Rivals to lovers trope, which I absolutely LURVE and had a super interesting heroine that wasn't a heroine I was used to reading. A big plus for me. Even Reed was really sexy and confident at times and I loved the banter between them a lot. However, sometimes I thought the hero was too aloof for me. He was so obsessed with doing the unexpected that it really hurt how I saw him as a character. The heroine was more than he deserved at times, putting up with him not being able to keep a job and even helping him get a job, which c'mon ladies, is going above and beyond.

I could have easily given this book a 5 had it not had been for some ableist and transphobic comments sprinkled in there that I wasn't prepared for. Otherwise, it was a light and angst-free romance if angst isn't for you. For the 2 days I spent on it, I was entertained. The narrators were great!

I can't bring myself to finish this one

I'm 13 chapters into this book, and I can't bring myself to finish it.

This book is not only badly-written and implausible, it also scares me (and not in a pleasant, "I'm reading a suspense novel", Stephen King kind of way). Lola, the female lead, tells Reed MULTIPLE TIMES and with *absolutely* no ambiguity that she wants him to leave her alone. His response is to blackmail a police officer into looking up her address and revealing it to him, then going to her apartment building and conning someone into letting him through the secure-entry front door. His inner monologues about falling for someone's personality and the value of various types of women sound like the musing of a serial killer. He's stalking her, and it's being played off as comedic and sweet. It's not! It's creepy as hell, and feels like a romance novel written by an MRA. Gross.

I have enjoyed other Max Monroe books, but this one is a definite pass.
