Publisher's Summary

For Sidney Hale, rescuing dogs is more than a hobby. It’s a calling. A deep-seated need. An unstoppable compulsion. For reasons so unsettling, she shares them with no one…until she meets Decker. After coming to her rescue while Sidney battled to save a dog - literally - the gorgeous SEAL proves he can be trusted with her secrets, her safety…maybe even her heart.

Saving an abused pit bull from a suspected dog fighter brings Decker “Gumby” Kincade not only the dog he’s always wanted, but the first woman in ages to catch his interest. Sidney’s reason for rescuing Hannah, and animals like her, is shocking…but it makes Gumby want her even more. Her harrowing past has made her the strong, brave, compassionate woman she is today. She could be The One…if Gumby can help curb her habit of putting herself squarely in danger’s path.

But he may be too late. Hannah’s previous owner is enraged over her loss…and looking for revenge.

*Securing Sidney is the second book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

This story examines the stark reality of dogfighting and other animal abuse, and includes brief descriptions that may be unpleasant for some listeners.

great story in a violent world

always love the way Ms Stoker takes on serious afflictions and in this case, serious animal brutality. it had some angst that was for sure. I was a bit annoyed at the heroine, she's had a terrible childhood and now at her age has refused to acknowledge or address her issues. I know it made the book plot more involved but I think it was a bit thin that she was feisty yet so ignorant to her ways. if I was Gumby I would have thought twice, talk about the patience of a saint!! savannah did a great job and as I predicated, it was frothy and less mission based like some of her others. but I enjoyed this one because of the storyline. much like the firefighters series Ms Stoker has written, it addressed poignant issues. enjoyed catching up with Caroline.

I am so darn glad to be done with this book.

Overall, I like Susan Stoker and her books are an auto buy for me. Most of the time I’ll listen to the story imore than once. This story, though, not so much. In fact, I’ll be returning it to get my credit back. I just did not like the heroine. I know she was supposed to be great hero of dogs who was also vulnerable and harboring childhood issues. I get that. And I was willing to go with that theory for the first dog rescue. However, after the second and definitely by the third dog rescue, I thought this had to be the stupidest girl. Her stupidity was so far gone that it was hard for me to finish this book. Seriously, I could only listen to it in small doses before I was done. It took days for me to finish this book. I did finish it, though, I don’t feel any measure of happiness as I usually do when finishing a romance especially by a favorite author. I was relieved to be done. It’s not just the stupid heroine, though, that made it hard to listen. It was the narrators male voices, especially the hero. Somehow she made him sound old and slightly constipated, not at all sexy.

MHO

This really is a good book/performance. But for me (tender heart for dogs), it was a little too graphic. I know it has a warning at the beginning,, but I tried it anyway. I enjoyed this couple's story.

Good read

Good book however, Sidney one of the main characters is very stupid. Just don't listen. I don't even know if she should have been rescued.

Engaging listen

I loved listening to Securing Sidney on audiobook. It had great narration, an engaging storyline, a swoon-worthy alpha hero, a heroine that I could like and root for, and Hannah, a rescue pit bull who was an absolute love bug! Susan Stoker audiobooks are my go to listen when I need something I know will keep me entertained and invested. -5 Stars-

We are on a roll now...

Now this book had a little bit more excitement. While I appreciated and applauded Sidney’s devotion to animals, she was border lining on obsessive. Her traumatic childhood definitely played a part and I wish we delved into it a bit more, but her response to animals and disregard for her safety was a bit much. On the other hand, it gave us a lovely entrance for Gumby and his connection to Sid. Great story..Gumby was more patient than any SEAL I’ve ever seen. Watching Sid put herself in danger again, was hard to see, but her recovery definitely cured her of her “run in first, think later” attitude. As always, the guys are always there to help rescue a damsel in distress. Another great story..

Pleasant and Enjoyable

Good characters, nice story with a reasonable amount of conflict. I especially liked the Scrappy female lead.

For the love of dogs

Susan Stoker leads us into the illegal dog fighting business when Sidney Hale attempts to rescue a dog and gets targeted by the man who trains dogs, pit bulls, into fighting machines. She is saved by Navy SEAL Decker “Gumby” Kincaid, who finds himself falling for this woman who suspects had a reason for her compulsion to rescue dogs. I am always in awe of Susan Stoker’s stories—yes, they revolve around characters we have come to love, but as always, the plots she gives us, the twists and turns of every story, is always unique, making it a no-brainer for readers—old and new, to keep following her wherever she leads us. This story was no different, dealing with an illegal dog fighting ring. I really cannot understand why there are people who think it is fun and exhilarating to watch what is literally man’s best friend, fight to the death. Yes, pities are fierce, but they can be the gentlest of creatures when showered with love and affection. In the Philippines, there are provinces that I know of that sell dog meat, and even though it is now banned, I know that the black market is still thriving, and I hate it. I am glad that Susan Stoker, in her own way, has shed a light on such practices, and it is my hope that you, dear reader, can do what you can in your own town or city, to help raise awareness against these illegal activities.

Susan Stoker wins again!

I loved this story. It’s well plotted, paced, and totally got my adrenaline up as it came in for a final confrontation with the evil dog fighter. Susan Stoker has a way of writing a story that gives me the angst of the main characters and the feels of the eventual good outcomes. I want to stop reading sometimes but can’t! How does she do that? While I’m a huge Stella Bloom fan for the narration, Savannah Peachwood did a really good job with this story. Ok Susan - what’s up your sleeve for me next with Piper and the children she is protecting in Securing Piper? I know I know - wait and see! 🤗🤗

Love this audio

Savannah Peachwood does an excellent job telling Sidney's story. I will listen to this audio often. Susan Stoker continues her SEAL of Protection Legacy series with Securing Sidney . Stoker successfully merges romance, suspense, enticing heroines, and hot SEALs in her books, and this one is no exception. I have a weakness for dogs and their owners myself, so a good dog support character is a plus for me. Sidney Hale’s mission is rescuing dogs. Her mission is often dangerous. To make it worse, Sidney tends to leap before she looks. As her past unfolds, the reason she is so committed to saving animals is revealed. Sidney is a head-strong, resilient, and determined character. Decker (Gumby) Kincaid stumbles on Sidney fighting an abusive dog owner and steps in to help. Don’t you love his nickname? Sidney has a disturbing family history. She feels betrayed by her parents. Her brother is an evil character. When Sidney talks about her family compared to Decker’s loving relations he feels the pull to help her grow. The closer they get, the more he wants to protect her and take away some of her pain. I love how Decker and his team work together outside of a SEAL mission to protect Sidney. As Securing Sidney is the second book in the series, we see a new group of women forming bonds to support one another and their men. Characters from previous books wander in the series, but their presence is brief. The primary focus is on the new relationships building among this team. Susan Stoker is one of my favorite, go-to authors when I need a military/romantic suspense story. She rings the bell again with Securing Sidney and the SEAL of Protection team.

Romance, Action and Doggies- Whats not to love?!

I am a huge Susan Stoker fan (she is an automatic pre-order for me), but I am a bigger dog fan. I have 3 rescued fur babies and I was worried about being about to handle a book that describes dog fighting/other abuses. If I did not already trust this author, I never would have read this. I should not have worried. Stoker is respectful and only describes enough so you get the idea. She does not revel in the pain or the gore. Ok that aside on to the reason we love these novels—the romance. : ) Sidney and Decker are sweet, believable and a good match. As with all Stoker’s heroines Sidney is intelligent and not a doormat. Yes she is damaged, as we all are, and you want to yell at her at times, but you understand why she does what she does. Decker is amazing, sexy and protective. The third member of this love fest is the rescued pittie Hannah. You will be smitten, I promise. Narrations is as great as it can be with one talented person. Her voice lets you clearly know who is speaking and all the emotion/action/etc. is present. I was not crazy about Decker’s voice, but the only way to make it okay would have been a guy to narrate his part. As always it is awesome to hear about past characters and get a sneak peak at the next story. Piper is intriguing…

Irritating

I loved Gumby, but found Sidney really frustrating. Lots of things about their relationship were very sweet and I understood and sympathised with the trauma she experienced and the compulsion it gave her to protect vulnerable dogs. However, she knew she had a problem and refused to even consider getting help, even with everyone around her telling her she needed to stop before she was seriously hurt/killed. My biggest problem with her, though, was the fact that she lied to Gumby. After giving her word, she went looking for information she knew would drive her to put herself in danger. Even worse, she took someone else with her. IMO Gumby forgave her way too easily. I did love Hannah, though, and her immediate bond with Gumby. The narration was OK, but not great.
