About this listen

When it comes to same-sex relationships, this book by Karen Keen contains the most thoughtful, balanced, biblically grounded discussion you’re likely to encounter anywhere. With pastoral sensitivity and respect for biblical authority, Keen breaks through current stalemates in the debate surrounding faith and sexual identity.

The fresh, evenhanded reevaluation of Scripture, Christian tradition, theology, and science in Keen’s Scripture, Ethics, and the Possibility of Same-Sex Relationships will appeal to both traditionalist and progressive church leaders and parishioners, students of ethics and biblical studies, and gay and lesbian people who often feel painfully torn between faith and sexuality.

If you are a Christian and you want to understand and respond to people identiying as Gayor or Lesbian with intellectual and spiritual integrity - this is by far the best book on this topic. It addresses all the important questions and takes all your concerns as a traditionalist seriously. Karen Keen not only gives you the whole picture of what science tells us about the realities for the 99% of people who try everything to "pray the gay away" for a lifetime with no change but she addresses the issue of how the law in scripture has been adapted to new situations/new information within the Old and New Testaments and how it continues to be and why this has always been necessary. She explains well why it is unreasonable to demand that the small minority of people who are gay and lesbian change their orientation when they are unable to or to insist that they must otherwise be celibate for life. She reads the Biblical references to same sex behaviour in the Bible in context and makes sound arguments for her case. I would say this book and "Bible Gender Sexuality" by James V. Brownson are the 2 books to read on this topic but if you have to pick just one this is the book to read. It is also a whole lot more accessible because you can listen to it on Audible!
