Publisher's Summary

Marty Neumeier, author of The Brand Gap and other business best-sellers, has written an audiobook that leaps right into your pounding heart.

One rainy night in December, young CEO David Stone is inexplicably called back to the office. The company’s chairman tells him that the board members have reached the end of their patience. If David can’t produce a viable turnaround plan in five weeks, he’s out of a job.

The problem is, he’s already used every trick in the book and nothing has worked. His only hope is to try something new. But what? The powerful tools at the center of the story are the five Qs of strategy and the five Ps of design thinking. These make up the basic principles of agile strategy - a faster, more collaborative approach to building a brand.

Whether you’re a CEO, strategist, marketer, manager, designer, writer, researcher, or consultant, you’ll find familiar challenges and recognizable faces here. You’ll also discover the ability to see business in a new light - not as a static set of requirements, but as a living entity that responds to passion, purpose, and creative collaboration. Scramble is that rare audiobook that everyone on your team will eagerly listen to, discuss, and put into action.

Gobsmacked

As an ex teacher I am stunned at the creative way Marty was able to teach the concepts and skills using a narrative. At every stage I found myself substituting the characters, problems and solutions for my own, applying it to my needs. I will recommend this book to entrepreneurs for years to come.

Great until introducing politics

This book was great but bringing politics into the experience was a mistake. It’s obvious to me that the author leans to the left and that’s sad considering half of your audience leans to the right. Congrats on ruining the overall experience.

Contextualizes conceptual knowledge

Although Marty is no voice actor, this excellent flip helps deepen your grasp of conceptual models by putting them into the context of a narrative. I would recommend this to someone who's already pretty familiar with marketing and branding strategy but maybe (like me) hasn't had much experience implementing those ideas.

Too much politics

The politics almost outshines the story. And Socrates wasn’t concentrated enough on in the story for the main character, David, to give him the credit he did. What did Socrates actually provide? Not much, really, in the big scheme of the whole story.

Never a boring moment!

I loved this book! Not only was it informational but the fact that it followed a fictional made the information easier and much more fun to digest. There are so many great books out there, but they’re all similar in the structure they follow that when paired with business lingo, they can be boring to read. For this book, I kept wanting to know what would happen next that it made it impossible to stop listening. It was great to see how the strategies were applied in the context of the story. Will definitely listen again. I hope we get to hear a new story of David Stone again!

An easy read by a pro

Honestly, this was probably the easiest book to read on the subject. Marty is a great narrator, which is kind of key to the whole thing. Some story elements were a tad cliche or weirdly specific, but it didn't detract from a great book. The cast was very diverse, and contrary to what some might think work matters can be quite gripping.the climax was legitimately enthralling for a business book, and tbh, I'm likely never going to forget it. In closing, I want to thank the author. Just really a stand-up guy. If you're at all on the fence, give this book a shot anyway.

entertaining and educational

I downloaded this book to learn more about agile methodology, and it wasn't exactly what i was looking for... but it was still entertaining and engaging. And it was educational from a agile strategy standpoint. Recommended for executives especially!

A refreshingly clever book; creative, insightful!

Posting a review here to share how much I loved "Scramble!" It was top-to-bottom quality and a fascinating, insightful read. The characters, the plot, this situation—all plausible and captivating. I loved the insertion of the Uber driver, Sokrates—reminiscent of “Way of the Peaceful Warrior,” a book I loved when I was younger.

Mostly though, I loved how you played out agile strategy in a thriller setting. Really smart and captivating…much like the way things unfold in the real world with a diverse cast of characters, each with roles, strengths and weaknesses contributing (or not) as a team.

It makes me want to get closer to some of the approaches within: how to better apply the 5Qs and the 5Ps.

Well done, Marty! Keep the great books coming.

Thrilling business book

Never thought I'd enjoy something labelled a 'business thriller' as much as that. If you're interested in branding, strategy or enjoy Marty neumeier books I highly recommended this.
