Publisher's Summary

She never wanted marriage....

When a friend is forced to consider a marriage of convenience, Lady Amelia Staunton is determined to rescue her. But her plans trap her in an illicit seduction, and Amelia must marry him herself. Malcolm's all-consuming kisses and devilish humor might make up for her lost freedom, but she believes he will force her to abandon the Gothic romances she yearns to write. Since she can't escape him, she must distract him from her secret.

He isn't looking for love....

A powerful autocrat with a well-hidden rebellious streak, Malcolm MacCabe doesn't need another beautiful mistress - he needs an obedient wife. Obedience is not one of Amelia's virtues. But he's too enthralled by her wit and passion to let her go - even if it means risking the political reputation he is building to save his clan.

Their hearts can't survive the scandal...

Despite their intentions, every wicked embrace binds them together. But as their conflicting desires combust into insatiable hunger and unavoidable ruin, they must decide whether to pursue their personal destinies alone - or fight for the love that could destroy them both.

My Musings

I have to say I'm disappointed with Scotsmen Prefer Blondes. I read Heiress Without a Cause, the first book in this series and absolutely loved it. Even though I don't get to read as much as I used to, I had to download this with the audio for $1.99.

While the first book kept me enthralled from beginning to end, this one had me ready to give up several times. I even tried to return the Kindle version, but I'd had it too long I guess. It rare for me to want to give up on a book. Since that wasn't possible, I figured I might as well finish with hopes it would improve, It didn't.

I did not like Amelia’s character at all. She acted very immature and self-centered. While she was supposed to be a strong independent woman, who never wanted to marry, she acted like a doormat on several occasions. Once she felt compelled to marry Malcolm, she gave into his tirades and obnoxious behavior.

You guessed, it did not like Malcolm by the end of the book, even though, I did like him fairly well up until the part where a cottage on his estate burned. The tide turned when he brutally takes Amelia, leaving bruises on her hips!

As I read this, I was reminded of Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. Amelia and Malcolm act as mercurial as they did, going from hot to cold in the blink of an eye.

I really wanted to like this book, but in the end, even though it does have a decent ending, it just wasn't strong enough to redeem either character for me. Happy reading!

Unlikeable characters

I’m surprised to have this reaction- I was looking forward to this book, based on what I’d seen of these same characters in the rest of the series. But I found both hero and heroine completely unlikable, unrelatable, and unbearably selfish - to the point that I could hardly finish the book.

His control issues are extreme enough to ruin any of the more steamy scenes, IMO.

The problems they have are caused entirely by themselves. The “solution” to their issues involves a level of selfishness rarely condoned in these novels. She remains entirely unconcerned with the history or the present day struggles of the Scots. Though she does enjoy the landscape.

Speaking of which, there’s room for descriptions of Scotland here, as described through the internal narrative of a character who is an author herself. What a shame we never get more than trite observations that the landscape is “lovely” or “beautiful.” Or “wet.”

I finally did finish the book, hoping it would get better. It didn’t. I didn’t feel like either of them redeemed themselves at all, found their happy ending far too pat, and their continuing absorption in themselves and each other, to the exclusion of other people’s real needs and feelings, simply atrocious.

They’re simply awful people.

Emma Powell’s narration was fine. But it wasn’t enough to rescue the story.

Don’t

They are both selfish idiots. Save your time; I have never disliked a heroine more and he is not much better. Now that I think about it, they do deserve each other. The narrator saved this book.

Disappointed

I enjoyed the first book in the series and looked forward to this book. BUT this book is so confusing and inconsistent. It feels like the author couldn’t commit to a plot. First he wants to marry her... then he wants her to cry off... then he wants a real marriage... then he doesn’t want a real marriage. The whole plot is forced and not well developed. It had good potential but was meh in the end.

So boring

Two hours in, and I just cannot suffer more of this. The only thing that happened was that the heroine betrayed her best friend after two hours of boring and meaningless babbling.

Loved it!

I like both the hero and heroine with their hot love for each other and how they grow into each other. I liked this book more than the first one.

A Real Five Star Tale

I enjoyed the 2 main characters interplay, the sparks flew and the heroine didn't back down. However, she did compromise when it was in her favor to do so as did the hero. Some out comes were predictable but not exactly how you would imagine. Both the author and the narrator did a great job.

Loved the story

Loved every second of the story but again, I can't say the same about the narrator. Her voice for Malcolm was awful. Also if she didn't talk in a different accent for Malcolm's voice, at times I wouldn't have been able to tell who was speaking. As he sounded like a young boy or a woman most of the time not a big powerful Scotsman. Anyway as the books are free from Audible I will still carry on with the series as I love the stories, pity about the narrator though. Thank you Audible. And thank you Sara Ramsay for the great stories.
