Publisher's Summary

Rigid adherence to scientism - as opposed to a healthy respect for science - is all too prevalent in our world today. Rather than leading to a deeper understanding of our universe, this worldview actually undermines real science and marginalizes morality and religion.

In this book, celebrated philosopher J. P. Moreland exposes the self-defeating nature of scientism and equips us to recognize scientism's harmful presence in different aspects of culture, emboldening our witness to biblical Christianity and arming us with strategies for the integration of faith and science - the only feasible path to genuine knowledge.

Comprehensive thoughts on scientism

Good thoughts on the different varieties of scientism and the weaknesses with them. The book doesn't really cover the topic of secularism and as such I don't think it needs to be apart of the title.

solid

solid content but a bit disorganized. criticisms are valid, and the material is analized with accuracy. much of it is not new to me, so disorganization didn't bother me that much.
i wish he would just present some more actual examples of scientism leading to false conclusions. in terms of a pedagogical help. some people may have difficulty grasping concepts without examples. he did some, but could have added more

good read

jp moreland is a brilliant mind! it is astonishing how evil the secular world is and how important "careful thought" about competing worlds views is. jp once again disarms the atheist. thanks!

A Book You Must Listen To

While I disagree with the author's conclusions about a six day creation, I still consider his book necessary. l will purchase this audible in a hard copy. I suggest every do the same. His book should be required for the body of Christ.

Important for everyone

This concept of scientism is everywhere and truth requires that it be brought to light and discussed and understood. This book does a great job of doing this.

Intense

Excellent.
Deep and gets you to unwind your beliefs from the bottom up. Not too much of a in-depth philosopher, but this one pushed me up a notch.

Information fire hose

J.P. gives an amazing layout of various arguments that have to do with scientism, and how a lot of time scientists reject philosophy because it actually makes it more difficult for scientists to be able to dismantle Christianity. I really enjoyed especially chapter 10 and 11 where Morgan broke down Stephen Hawkins view of God not existing. Very fascinating read a lot of great detail and a highly recommend and excellent tool to broaden your mind on the way the world thinks of Christianity and how you can answer really tough questions.

Clearly argued and well read

Moreland argues his case very clearly and accessibly for the intelligent layman. Crucial to his argument is the ongoing centrality of philosophy to the scientific enterprise and the dependence of the latter upon the former. Even for those who resist Christian theism as the most powerful or plausible philosophical foundation for ‘natural’ science (and the purpose of this book is not a full fledged defense of theism), I hope that any honest listener of this book will acknowledge that the scientistic arguments often made in the name of science are actually arguments about the philosophy of science, and while they may be fashionable, they are not well-founded and are in many cases self-refuting.
