Publisher's Summary

In 1983 four self-described 'knuckleheads' burst out of the neo-punk rock scene in L.A. with their own unique brand of cosmic hard-core mayhem funk. Over 20 years later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, against all the odds, have become one of the most successful bands in the world. Though the band has gone through many incarnations, Anthony Kiedis, the group's lyricist and dynamic lead singer, has been there for the whole rollercoastar ride.

Scar Tissue far transcends the typical rock biography, because Anthony Kiedis is anything but a typical rock star. It is instead a searingly honest memoir - a compelling story of dedication and debauchery, of intrigue and integrity, of recklessness and redemption. It is a story that could only have come out of Hollywood.

Very Spiritual

Wouldn't say it was a bad book, was a story entertaining at moments, but i now personally think Anthony Kiedis is one of the biggest flogs in the world. The word spirit appears in the bible 90 times, Scar tissue shits on that number, in the last chapter alone. though i have not counted this number because this book has already take 14 hours of my time. Anthony talks about spirits and spiritual energy like he's a crossing over with John Edwards. The spiritual energy i get from this book is "Cockhead energy" a arrogant junkie who is justifying why he thinks hes better than everyone, a con man that has conned himself. This is my opinion though alot of my friends and relatives thinks he's alright that have read this book.

Appalling attitude

I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers however this book has made me realise that Anthony Kiedis is a self centred judgemental, narcissistic misogynist. His attitude towards women in particular is appalling. His triumph over addiction is to be commended however I feel this book simply glamorises disgraceful behaviours and attitudes.

Around in circles

Started well and then just went around in circles of him doing drugs, being an asshole, having dysfunctional relationships and him blaming everyone else for him being an self centred asshole.

Insightful read

Interesting insight into one man his band and his struggle with addiction. Would be interesting to have a catch up added to the book bringing it into 2016

Well Worth the listen.

This audible version was interesting and engaging.
I appreciate the bravery and honesty it takes anyone that has an ongoing relationship with addiction to share their story. I was and am a huge fan of the author and the bands music.
30 years later and now well and truly middle aged, I am admire the sharing of this story and still love the music.
Thankyou.

Highly recommended

I loved this. I’m not a fan or anything, I do like the music of the red hot chilli peppers, but I didn’t know any of the background. I am a nurse and found the way Anthony speaks so openly about addiction is so helpful to medical staff to understand some of the psychological thought patterns that go along with addiction and withdrawals. I also really loved getting to know Anthony’s story and I kind of feel like I know him, he’s my friend now lol. It’s going to be hard now that I’ve finished it to stop wondering what’s happening in his world. And I don’t know if I’ll find another book that I can get into as much as I loved this.

Loved it!!!

This was such an entertaining, humbling and well written book. The narrator did an excellent job, and I now have a bit of a crush on Anthony Kiedis and would love to give him a big sober hug and share a freshly squeezed juice.

Don't bother

Anthony is a self centered flog who, for decades treated everyone like shit while he was a junkie. What grinds my gears is that now he expects to be celebrated because he finally got clean. Hot tips for young players: DON'T DO HEROIN in the first place and don't leave Anthony alone with your missus.

Interesting Insight

Where does Scar Tissue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is toward the top of my library in terms of quality. It is an interesting account, it's a very long book that deals in depth with each stage of the band's progression, with a solid delivery by the narrator. I'm not the hugest fan of the band, but I lived through their times and it's a really interesting account of that. I admire the author's candid account, it doesn't seem like he held much back in the writing of this memoir.

Brilliant

What an incredible story!. And not only that Anthony is still alive. I've heard the Chilli Peppers commercial songs, but never been a mad huge fan. After hearing this I want to go out now and listen to every album as I feel I now have a small understanding of where it all comes from.
This warts and all story gives a great education on drugs and drug abuse and how the minds that are attached to these abused bodies work. I loved every minute, was gutted every time you lost the battle and cheered when you could stay sober. I had to listen to the last 3 hours in one hit - I couldn't turn off. To Anthony - Thank you for sharing so much.
To Rider - So very well read.

Could only be a hollywood life

Where does Scar Tissue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Up near the top for sure. The narrator is fantastic & the book has got a great mix of highs, lows, funny bits, sad bits and so on that make it really easy to keep listening.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the stories behind the music. What was going on in their lives when they were doing which shows. Anthony Keidis very unconventional childhood is interesting, as is his continued functioning as a musician to such a high level, whilst leading such a dysfunctional long time drug interest!

Have you listened to any of Rider Strong’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never, but this one was fantastic!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

No idea, but I would love them to make a film!

Good story, well read

I found the story behind the Red Hot Chilli Peppers facinating and the book was very well read. The voice fit perfectly. Full marks.
