Saladin wird, als Kaufmann verkleidet, von Herrn Torello geehrt und bewirtet. Der Kreuzzug erfolgt. Herr Torello, der seiner Gattin eine Frist gesetzt hat, nach der sie sich wieder vermählen möge, wird gefangen und dadurch, dass er Falken abrichtet, dem Sultan bekannt. Dieser erkennt ihn wieder und ehrt ihn. Herr Torello wird hierauf krank und durch magische Kunst in einer Nacht nach Pavia versetzt. Hier wird er bei der Hochzeit, die seine Gattin feiert, von ihr erkannt und kehrt mit ihr in sein Haus zurück.

Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375) war ein italienischer Dichter und Schriftsteller. Sein berühmtestes Werk ist der Decamerone, einer Sammlung von 100 Novellen, aus der auch diese Erzählung stammt. Übersetzung: Karl Witte, Regie: H. Vogel.
