About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Life gets complicated when Death gets involved.

To be born into a family of royal assassins pretty much guarantees that your life is going to be... rather unusual. Especially if, like Miscellaneous "Lanie" Stones, you also have a vicious allergy to all forms of violence and bloodshed, and an uncanny affinity for bringing the dead back to life. To make matters worse, family debt looms - a debt that will have to be paid sooner rather than later if Lanie and her sister are to retain ownership of the ancestral seat, Stones Manor. Lanie finds herself courted and threatened by powerful parties who would love to use her worryingly intimate relationship with the goddess of death for their own nefarious ends. But the goddess has other plans...

A Beautiful sugar-boned story, finely word-crafted, exquisitely rendered in audio by the author.

Gorgeous

I enjoyed the book, and absolutely loved the world building and uniqueness of the story and the universe it is set in.
I did find the pacing a little over the place and at times it took a lot of patience to get through certain parts. While the world building is great, I felt like I was being told a lot of what was happening rather than shown. It definitely felt dense and the narrator was okay, but ultimately distracting I felt from the book itself.

Ultimately it's a world that has captured my attention, even if the story wasn't hugely engaging. I do plan to read the next in the series, and hoping it has gotten better.

Amazing world building
