April 1934 entgleiste der D-Zug Wien–Paris bei Oftering durch ein gezielt herbeigeführtes Eisenbahnattentat, bei dem ein Heizer ums Leben kam und mehrere Postbeamte verletzt wurden; die Täter wollten den verunglückten Zug ausrauben, scheiterten jedoch an den chaotischen Umständen nach dem Anschlag. Erst Jahre später konnte der Fall durch Zufall und ein Geständnis aufgeklärt werden.
