About this listen

An unrequited love, small town romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.

Vera Gallagher is chasing constant. For four years, her life was anything but normal. And the years before that she refuses to even remember. Dwelling on the past only hurts. Life is fragile, a lesson her mother taught her well. She’s determined not to waste a moment of her newfound freedom.

Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.

He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.

Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.

5 ⭐️

I listened to this book as an audio book on Audible and I absolutely loved it like I loved the past Eden books I have listened to! It was narrated by Ryan Hudson, and Samantha Brenmoor, who is now one of my favourite female narrators. These narrators were perfect for the characters. Although it was a short listen I was super busy and it took me a few days to get it finished, but I still really enjoyed it! This is the last book in the Eden series and I was so happy it was such a great ending. I am sad to see this series finish, I will miss everyone in it!

This story follows Vera Gallagher as she discovers what her life has become after her life was changed years ago. Not wanting to remember what happened, she distracts herself with her new found crush on Mateo Eden, the single, very hot, new single dad to a new born baby girl, who also happens to be a pilot. They help each other in ways they didn’t think were possible and this leads them to falling in love in the most unexpected ways.

- Small Town
- Single Parent
- Tragic Past
- Duel POV

The way these two were perfect for each other is insane. The attraction between the two is just phenomenal. It starts as glances, to wanting to be around each other even when they don’t need to be and finally nothing could keep them apart.

Vera is one of my favourite girls of the Eden Series. Her strength and determination is literally unmatched to anyone I have read. Her determination to find that closure in her life was such a great read. I love her caring nature and her gentle personality.

Mateo is such a good dad to Allie, who is his entire world. I was so excited to hear his story. He is so intelligent, protective, caring, resilient and strong and also just as determined as Vera. His devotion and love to his family is unmatched.

They are literally perfect together and I couldn’t as for a better book to end the series on. I was obsessed, as always, seeing the past characters all throughout this book! I really loved watching their relationships grow even more. I will miss the Edens so much!!

"Because she's Vera"

I read the book a long time ago, and now I've purchased the audiobook because I wanted to experience this fantastic, heartwarming story again. While I’m not fond of the male narrator, I thought the female narrator was fantastic and could easily carry the audiobook on her own.

4.5 Stars

I feel like I've waited for this book forever. Luckily for me I picked up this series about halfway in, so I haven't been waiting as long as some but from the first introduction to the Eden's I was hooked. And having to wait for the lovely Devney to write them was akin to torture in my brain. As soon as this one was released, I grabbed it on audible so I could listen to it while still adulting.

The narration was awesome. I love dual narration. I have to admit since it has been a minute since I read the last one it did take me a few chapters to get up to speed on Vera. Then it all hit me like a freight train, and I was completely immersed in finding out more. Obviously, I knew her secrets and back story from Vance but to hear it from her was heartbreaking.

The blurb on this also tripped me up. Because I knew Matteo and kind of knew his story, but I had this image in my head of him being cold and uninterested in Vera from the way I interpreted it. Then the book started, and I didn't get the feelings I was expecting. Matteo was so there, and I couldn't get enough of him.

Plus, I love that Vera saw Matteo so beautifully yet was so clueless at the same time. Although the same was true for Matteo. So, once they got on the same page it was beautiful. The whole relationship progressed so perfectly I couldn't find fault in any of it. There was no drama or misunderstanding.

The way everything was tied up with her father was super cute. Not the perfect romantic ending you might expect but just beautiful closure of the chapter. And I loved the epilogue, but that bonus epilogue was the perfect cherry on the top. Thankfully I still have a few of Devney’s other books on my TBR so I won't go crazy waiting to see what's up next now that our Eden's are all done. Next generation wouldn't be a bad idea though, just saying.

A beautiful ending

This was a great book. I really enjoyed the narration. It's the final book in the Edens series. Youngest brother Mateo finally gets his book. Vera is introduced in Crimson River and we get way more insight into her past. This book is emotional and heartbreaking in some parts. Vera has had a difficult life. I really liked this book, it's different from the other Edens books as it's very emotional and has lots of character building. The ending is brilliant and finishes the series up in a lovely way. I highly recommend this book. Make sure you read the other Edens books first. This isn't a standalone.

Another great listen

This one had a slightly different feel which makes it a great edition to the series. Starts a bit slow but worth the wait. Enjoy the strength of Vera.

A 6 Star Read

Wow. Just wow. This book is so deserving of the very rare 6-star crown. This book was magical, heartbreaking, heartwarming and such an incredible end to an incredible 6 book series. Absolutely top tier. And the final chapters? Everything an Eden girl needed and more.

Narration so BAD I’ve switched to Kindle!

The male narrators voice was unlike anything I’ve heard before robotic in cadence and inflections on weird parts of sentences. Super disappointing as I was almost in tears at the end of the last chapter in Vera’s perspective and it was like an ice bucket was dumped on me. I tried to keep going but it ruined the story so Ive switched to kindle!
