Ce dernier, dans un contexte de forte tension diplomatique, s'était rendu au Rwanda pour effectuer un reportage sur la détention d'un Franco-Rwandais dans la prison de Kigali. Séquestré et torturé à mort par la suite, son corps fut abandonné sur le lieu d'un attentat.
