Publisher's Summary

She’s the one girl he can’t have.

With his dimpled grin and devilish charm, firefighter Gavin Bailey is hot as a five-alarm fire and twice as dangerous. The youngest of five brothers, he’s the daredevil of the family. Until the unexpected strikes and he finds himself sidelined.

Skylar Stanley’s life didn’t just fall apart. It exploded. Spectacularly. Dropped by her publisher and her agent, and dumped by her boyfriend, she suddenly has no place to live and a career circling the drain. She comes home to the quirky, feuding small town she hasn’t lived in since kindergarten to pick up the pieces. And hopefully find her mojo.

Gavin would happily help Skylar get her groove back - in and out of the bedroom - except for one big problem. Her dad is Gavin’s boss, mentor, and the closest thing he’s ever had to a father.

As much as Gavin loves racing headlong into danger, Skylar is a risk of a different kind. One that he’s determined to avoid.

But the line between friends and lovers gets awfully blurry, and Gavin just might find the one thing that truly scares him.

Losing her.

Author’s note: The wild child of the Bailey clan meets his match in a shy writer who’s braver than she thinks. A sexy, feel-good story with pranks and shenanigans, Bailey-style brotherly love, a rescue kitten, plus delightfully dirty fantasies come true and a happily-ever-after that will make your heart burst with sunshine and rainbows.

The Bailey Brothers series is meant to be heard in order. Start with book one, Protecting You.

Greatness

This is such a great friends to lovers story. We have our imaginative writer and our daredevil baby brother finding their way together. Throw in some suspense from our running background mystery and the hilarity of townies and pranks, it’s a perfect listen.

Both narrators were perfect for these characters. They did great jobs conveying the little things that made these characters unique. The accents and tones were on point. Everything from the print edition was magnified here.

I left a note

Fantastic narration! The narrators bring the story to life wonderfully. This series just keeps getting better with every book. Every time I think I have a favorite. Gavin and Skylar have one of the best meet cutes ever.

Skylar comes back to the town that she hasn’t lived in since she was in kindergarten. She runs to her dad’s for a change of scenery. She’s went through a break up in more than one way. She’s experiencing writer’s block. Maybe Tilikum is the perfect escape.

After meeting Skylar, Gavin has to be off work on medical leave. Gavin isn’t used to a sedentary life. Deciding to be Skylar’s first Tilikum friend turns out to be the best decision he’s ever made. She’s great to hang out with, and it has benefits for her too. Can they just be friends?

Skylar’s mom shows up needing a place to stay too. Interesting is definitely a word to describe that situation. The family pranks in this one are on point. I’m not sure it can be beat. You get a bonus romance besides the main characters.
Everyone needs a Cara in their life. She’s one of my favorite characters ever, male or female. Fingers crossed that she becomes a heroine. I can’t leave a review without mentioning the epilogue. Oh my goodness! My mind is going in so many different directions on what happens next.

Otter & Sparrow

Every time I think I have found the Bailey Brother that I love the most, along comes the next one to steal my heart! 💟

Gavin was everything that I hoped he would be and more. He works hard, plays hard, and loves with his whole being. My heart broke for him with his feelings of not being wanted.

Skylar and her social awkwardness was endearing. Sky, and her morbidly random facts, really need to sit down with June from the Bootleg Springs series. The conversations they could have!!!

I loved the closeness that Gavin and Cara have and was honestly surprised by it. I cannot wait for Cara's story. And the secondary "second-chance" romance that played out between another couple was sweet and revealed so much about the Bailey parents.

Thank you, Claire, for such a beautiful love story about two people who are meant to be together. And I adored the kitten "mommy"!

Can't wait for Logan's story.

Stephen Dexter and Savannah Peachwood were perfectly cast to voice Gavin and Skylar. They each brought depth and nuance to the characters and their narration brought their hopes and fears to life. Stephen's narration reflected the boyish playfulness of Gavin and the tone of his voice was heartbreaking when Gavin was speaking to Gram about how he had no memories of his parents.

Five well-deserved stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Skylar has just been dumped by her boyfriend. Who also happened to be her literary agent. Double dumped. And he asked her to leave so his new girlfriend can move in. He has been cheating for over a year with another writer. A married one. Who do I call? Where will I go? So even though he isn't normally my first choice I called my dad, the Fire Chief of Tillicum.

Gavin was a firefighter along with his twin brothers, Logan and Levi. He and Levi are digging a fire line for a huge wild fire that is too close to town when he charges in to save another firefighter who was going over a cliff. Gavin was an adrenalin junky and joker. He was serious about nothing except firefighting and then everyone paid close attention since he had an uncanny sense for where a fire was heading. And this fire was turning and he needed to find safety. So he jumped back off the cliff to deploy a fire shelter.

Unbelievable, he just survived rescuing a fellow firefighter from a forest fire just to be hit by a car! But, when he sees the gorgeous woman who hit him he smiles. And continues to smile until he finds out she's the fire chief's daughter. Off limits to a player like him.

Skylar is dismayed! She arrives in town and hits a man stepping off the curb. Not just any man. A gorgeous man. And one of her dad's firefighters.

Skylar is afraid of everything and Gavin is afraid of nothing. Skylar is quiet and Gavin is totally not. Total opposites attract.

Of course I loved this book! He's a Bailey!!! I love this town with it's feud and all the quirky squirrels. I love how Gavin is a daredevil, but saves a kitten. I love Skylar and how she spaces out with story plots and the Gavin Effect.

You know you found a great author when you get invested in the town and all the characters. They are your family. And the Baileys are the family I definitely want to be a part of !!! ❤

Audiobook - Stephen Dexter and Savanah Peachwood are PERFECT in bringing Gavin and Skylar to life!!! What awesome narrators. They have Gavin and Skylar's personalities down pat. I read this book before listening to the audio and having them read to me made me even closer to the characters. Is it wrong that I want to check out other books narrated by Stephen Dexter just to hear his voice?

My favorite Bailey brothers book yet!

Rushing In might be my favorite Bailey brothers book yet. It has heart, heat, laughs and just makes you feel good. I knew I was going to love this book after the VERY memorable first meeting of Gavin and Skylar.

“Gavin Bailey scared me. But he also made me feel brave.”

I could relate to Skylar so much. She was a bit of an introvert who was uncomfortable meeting new people and little things could make her anxious. She was afraid of everything, but Gavin accepted her for who she was and was able to help bring her out of her comfort zone. With his help, she was able to grow and become more confident.

“I was afraid I didn’t matter. That my life was irrelevant.”

What can I say about Gavin? I mean, who wouldn’t love a man who becomes a cat mom to an abandoned kitten and names her Princess Squeakers. He was such a sweet, lovable guy who lived for danger. On the outside, he was afraid of nothing, but deep down, he’s afraid of losing the people he loves. Being with Skylar helps him confront those feelings so he can move on from his fears.

The narration by Stephen Dexter and Savannah Peachwood was great. They really brought the characters of Skylar and Gavin to life.

These two opposites were perfect for each other. Watching them navigate an unexpected friendship will warm the reader’s heart. Plus the Bailey brother prank on the Havens is EPIC!! Don’t miss this delightful story!

a wonderful story

This book was just what I needed to make me smile, laugh, and swoon.

I had already grown to love each of the Bailey Brothers, but I really liked getting to know Gavin even better here. He is impulsive, fun-loving, adventurous, and has one of the biggest, kindest hearts I've seen in a character. Skylar was someone I'd love to be friends with. It would be so fun to read her books and it was interesting getting inside her head and seeing her writing/thought process.

What starts out with a hilarious meet cute turned into a quick friendship. However, they can't deny their mutual attraction and things begin to change. They were so great together. I loved how Gavin accepted and encouraged Skylar, something she didn't get in her previous relationship. He loved her just as she was.

I really liked getting more clues in the series' overarching mystery. There is also plenty of Bailey Brothers fun and humor.

The narration here was spot on. The narrators did a fabulous job embodying Gavin and Skylar. I read the ebook the first time around but I am so glad I listened to the audiobook for a reread.

I know I just finished this book, but I already cannot wait to listen to the next one!

The adventures of Gav and Sky will make you swoon!

I love this story! I love Gavin and Skyler. Skyler was a beautifully written woman scared in the same way many of us can be. Gavin isn’t afraid of anything. Knowing he is the craziest brother of the bunch, I expected a different story. I loved what I got so much more. He was forced to slow down, and grown up, and it was fantastic. I loved how regular this story was, and I mean that in the best possible way. I felt like I was just living life with them, spending time in the town, and watching the story unfold. It felt real, and authentic and perfect. I love this town and these characters!! I want to learn from Gram, and be friends with Cara, and have a bonfire at the Bailey’s, and live in this town!

Stephen Dexter and Savannah Peachwood are so good in this. They are both narrators I love, and I am always surprised at how individualized they can make a character. Stephen plays a few other very popular Claire Kingsley Heroes, yet he is 100% Gavin in this one. Savannah is so believable as Skyler, she always makes me feel big. With a cast of characters this large, both narrators were really outstanding with their vocal range. Another beautiful Claire novel made even better with an Audio release.

I Love Gav and Sky even more now!!!!

It has been a long wait for this audiobook and it was WORTH IT!!! You can never go wrong when Stephen Dexter and Savannah Peachwood are narrating. Savanna portrayed Skylar just as I heard her in my head when I read it and everything Stephen narrates is pure gold. They really and truly brought Gavin and Skylar to life and Stephen doing Gram.....O.M.G...priceless!!!

The part I looked forward to the most with this audio was the scene with Gram and Gavin talking about his parents and it just gave me goosebumps that were never ending. I love hearing/seeing Gavin evolve from being fearless to learning what it feels like when you face your fear of losing someone you love. I loved how he and Skylar both evolved into improved versions of themselves and are absolutely perfect for each other. Once again Claire hits it out of the park with a story and the people she chose to bring life to Gavin and Skylar!!!

The adventures of Gav and Sky!

I love the friends-to-lovers trope, even better when they fight it by constantly defending how they’re “just friends.” I loved Gav and Sky’s push and pull and how well they balanced each other. As with most of Claire Kingsley’s series, I absolutely love the mystery going on the background with Eliza, John, and the Montgomery treasure. I can’t wait to see what’s unfolding!

Somehow, Claire Kingsley always manages to cast the exact right narrators for every book. I am a Stephen Dexter fangirl and knew when I first read the book that he had to voice Gavin. He can be sexy as sin, but also has a playful quality to his voice that makes him the perfect Gavin Bailey. If anyone is going to narrate a hot firefighter snuggling a kitten named Squeaker, it’s Stephen Dexter.

This is worth your audible credit! Don’t hesitate!
