Friedrich Carl Maria Sieburg (1893-1964) entstammte einer Kaufmannsfamilie. Nach seinem Studium der Philosophie, Geschichte, Literatur und Nationalökonomie war er als freier Schriftsteller in Berlin tätig. Er bekannte sich zum Nationalsozialismus, übte aber auch Kritik daran. In dieser Zeit (1935) entstand auch die Biografie "Robespierre", die ausschließlich auf Fakten beruht.
