Publisher's Summary

Even one-night stands deserve a second chance in New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken’s novel of sporting desire.

What else can a virgin do when she’s ditched at the altar? Seattle heiress Mackenzie Dupont is treating herself to a single-girl honeymoon in Mexico and a desire to relinquish her innocence to a gorgeous one-night stand. Fake names. True pleasure. But when she wakes up alone, Mackenzie realizes just how much anger is left in her broken heart.

Suffering a tragic personal loss, pro soccer player Slade Rodriguez has his reasons for vanishing without a goodbye. Right or wrong, he’s blaming the beautiful and infuriating stranger he never wants to see again. They’re both in for a shock when Mackenzie shows up as his new personal assistant. And they both have a lot to learn about each other. Because they share more than they could possibly know, including a common enemy who’s playing his own games. And he’s not afraid to get dirty.

Now there’s only one way Mackenzie and Slade can win: to trust in each other and to stop hiding from the lies they’ve told, the secrets they’ve kept, the mistakes they’ve made, and the attraction that still burns between them.

I LOVED this Book!

Soo I eye read this book already but I had pre-ordered the audio long before I was lucky enough to get the book early. So I kept it because hello CJ Bloom is a favorite of mine. But also I enjoyed this book so much, I wanted to see if I liked it as much in audio. And you know what I DID!
Erin London does a great job with Slade's voice is how I thought of it in my head.

I think it might be my favorite RVD book yet. It was sweet and romantic, but it was more the characters are amazing. Mackenzie is this strong woman who might be broken a little from her past but she pushes through. She knows her self-worth and isn’t afraid to say so. She gets knocked down and gets right back up. I love this about her. She never loses her sense of humor or her sense of self.

Slade is a heartbreaker in more than one way he really put my heart through the wringer! You could feel his pain it was bleeding through the pages. Even when I wanted to shake him I still had empathy for him.

Matt hahaha Oh Matt is a character for sure haha he and Jagger I swear I want them both to get books because they really gave this story that little extra to make you feel the friendship even if it was more enemies ;).

Mack and Slade have this back and forth that I love in my romance, he pushes she pushes back and when she pulls away he follows it is really interesting to read and root for them. I am in awe of this book and I just want more.

Highly Recommend this book.

This book has it all!

I am actually surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Once I found out this book had the audio included on Kindle Unlimited, I quickly grabbed it… the fact that it was about a soccer player was just icing on the cake! Mackenzie and Slade meet when they both take a trip to Mexico as a little escape from their lives. In typical romance fashion, they hit it off and spend an amazing day together until real life butts in and tragedy strikes. After they return to their lives in Seattle, they get thrown together again and they try to fight the attraction. Mack tries to hang out with an old friend, Slade gets jealous, her ex causes problems, punches are thrown. Really, this book has drama, comedy, romance and the cutest bulldog with a gas problem!

The narration was great for these characters. I’ve listened to CJ Bloom before and I always enjoy her bringing the characters to life. Eric London was a new narrator for me but I really enjoyed him. His voice for Matt was a little annoying, but since Matt always seemed to be fed up I could completely see him sounding like that!

Rachel weaves a story that traps you in her web!

When an author can effortlessly tell a story that brings you in and keeps you wanting more, that is the definition of talented writer. Rachel has done that in previous books I have read and this story pulled me in from the start and never let go.

The narration was excellent and let me visualize the story as the author intended. I know that the ladies will love Eric but CJ has the inflection down for every emotion!!

No spoilers ever!

I see that Matt has the next story but I am hoping that Jagger will also get his own book! The dynamic development between the characters is excellent and, in my opinion, realistic. We often have an opinion of someone we don't know that changes once we get to know them.

The premise is semi-plausible as two people meet after life changing circumstances occur. There are plenty of people who could not identify a sports star, no matter how many magazines they appear in. This is a story based on mistaken identities, preconceived notions jumping to conclusions.

Slade gets devastating news and does what many people do when they feel like they haven't been the person they should have been, he deflects and blames Mack. She goes back home feeling used and upset with her decisions and her former fiance and works for a subsidiary of her company (even though she is worth millions) to avoid conflict. Of course, she starts to work for Slade and the fireworks begin. Throw in Jagger and her ex, and the story just keeps getting better. There are lots of funny moments (and when listening on Audible while walking around, people will give you strange looks), happy, sad and thought provoking moments mixed throughout this book.

If you only want reality, the non-fiction section might be a better place to look. Rachel tells a story to give you a break from reality and the ridiculous political environment (both parties) we are in and I truly appreciate that. No preaching about political or social issues, just great storytelling.

Fun listen

This one is full of romance, laughter, angst, and a dog will very bad gas! Alton did a number on Mack. She lost her confidence and Slade was just the right person to help her heal, just like she helped him heal. I tried hating Slade for his behaviour towards Mack but I just couldn't, because ppl deal with grief in different ways. Watching the two of them try to figure out their lives, friendship, and relationship was just beautiful. Add in Slade's love / hate relationship with Jagger and his friendship with Matt, I just couldn't put this book down. Risky Play was truly a joy to read. If you're looking for a book to laugh out loud, feel their pain, and their love then I highly recommend Risky Play.

Oh, man, Rachel Van Dyken does it again!!!

Mack & Slade were beautifully done in this sweet story. Rachel Van Dyken does have a way of balance things out about life and discovering who you can be. I truly thing their banter were quite perfect and the mix with Matt & Jagger truly had a way to make it humorous!!!!! Overall, it’s a book you just want to read/listen over and over!

Quite Enjoyable

I ended up really enjoying this book. I was a little nervous at first. But, Rachel turned things around in a very big way and I loved it. The way Slade and Mackenzie meet was cute and I loved the day they spent together. Then it all goes to crap when Slade turns into this major jerk who blames Mackenzie for not answering his fathers phone call before he died. Mackenzie takes everything in stride and helps Slade put himself back together again. As Slade realizes what a jerk he was and sees how wrong it was to take out his grief on her, he does everything in his power to make things up to her.

As usual CJ Bloom is always a wonderful narrator and her voice is so light and sweet. It's perfect for my sweet romances that I enjoy listening to. Eric London's voice was great as Slade and that accent was perfection. Loved it. These two were amazing.

Cute series starter.

I really enjoyed listening to this one. There were characters I loved and characters I loved to hate. It was really well written and pulled me in from the beginning.

These two were easy to cheer on. After heartbreak, they both deserved a happy ending. While they had their ups and downs, their chemistry and feelings for one another couldn't be denied. I loved watching them fall for one another fast then slow as they developed a friendship and trusting relationship.

The narration was fantastic. I wasn't familiar with either narrator, but I'd love to listen to more from both of them.
