Gudrun Eriksens fascination af lokalhistorie mærkes tydligt i bogserierne om "Kommandantens børn" og "Nyboder-bøgerne", hvor Københavns historie har en afgørende betydning for handlingen. Gudrun Eriksen færdiggjorde tredje og sidste del af den berømte serie om pigen Tudemarie, da forfatter Maria Andersen døde.
