Disappointing
I tried to like this book. I wanted to like this book. I thought it would be a fun read.
One plus was the Narrator was very good and had a lovely voice.
Frankly I'm surprised this sexist, male gaze story was written by a woman. It felt like the author doesn't like women.
The characters are very shallow, I kept waiting for something to actually happen but it didn't. There was just constant infidelity, animal cruelty, alcoholism , snobbishness, hedonistic entitled rich vain narcissistic characters. Repeated searing hate directed towards 'fat' women, the author appears to dislikes overweight women but worships thinness which seems to equate to "beauty". Also plenty of homophobia which is equally hard to digest. Maybe this book was trailblazing in the 80"s but it feels so dated and out of sync today. I'm sorry I couldn't finish it.

Great
I had forgotten how great Jilly Cooper’s stories are after reading them all years ago - outdated in some respects but so accurate in others - looking forward to the next one in the series

Slightly out of date
I read the book around 40 years ago as a teenager and thought it was terribly racy at the time. Now it’s unfortunately outdated and horribly sexist with some scenes that are tantamount to rape.

Ready, Set, GO!
The first in the Rutshire Chronicles introduces us to the greatest characters - love the narrator instilling different voices for the characters.
Just a great way to get lost in a story given how things are in the outside world today

Go the Bonkbuster !
Egged on by my wife Marie Wilson who was a teenage NZ Show jump champion 1975, and had devoured Jilly Cooper's books in the '80s.
This is the most famous of her long novels and I found it a great romp. At 29hrs, published in 1985, the genre is an erotic romance, intricate plots and in the UK often called a "Bonkbuster" book. There is lots of delightful politically incorrect hubba hubba here and her worst but most famous character Rupert Campbell-Black is to turn up in other books.
Riders is a gloriously dirty, sexy, silly, funny romp through the world of showjumping. Campbell-Black, shagging his way through horsey wives and hangers-on was based on a number of people according to Cooper.
She won the inaugural Comedy women in print lifetime achievement award in 2019.
Highly Recommend.
