About this listen

A fatal job. A deadly jewel. How long will Kaylan survive?

Snatched from her life as a blacksmith, Kaylan Rove is forced to become the Shadow: the personal servant of a ruthless and powerful lord.

But Lord Rennard himself isn't the threat. It's the Relic he wears around his neck - a stone that protects his bloodline, but poisons everyone else in its proximity. Kaylan's life becomes a waking nightmare as the Relic slowly destroys her body and mind.

But just as hope begins to fade, she discovers a rebel plot that might put an end to Rennard's rule...

I'm all for a slow building story but it almost immediately jumps into the main plot which gets you excited for a good story but it just stagnates there and repeats the same thing over and over and over again. Had such potential but I personally just don't find it worth it. No character build, no plot twists, no surprises, no real way to connect to characters.

Slow and VERY REPETITIVE

Book had a great story idea with potential to be filled with action, twists and emotional roller-coaster. Sadly there was no real direction, plots or connection with the characters. Overall boring, dreary and just dragged on. the narrater was good loved her accent.

A bit of a let down
