About this listen

'A fascinating, compelling page-turner. Redbelly Crossing is Candice Fox at her best.' JANE HARPER

'Candice Fox is one of Australia's finest crime writers.' CHRIS HAMMER

'Addictive. Cancel all your plans!' SALLY HEPWORTH

'Readers who value atmosphere and moral complexity as much as plot will find Redbelly Crossing particularly rewarding. This is Australian noir at its most suffocating and psychologically precise.' Books + Publishing

Blood is thicker than water. But too much leaves a trail . . .

Russell and Evan Powder are cops.

The brothers haven't spoken for five years, since a violent confrontation tore their family apart.

Now they are both assigned to the murder of a young journalist, Chloe Lutz, in the small town of Redbelly Crossing (population 205).

It's the last thing Russell wants. This is supposed to be the week he repairs things with his teenage daughter Bridie. Now he's had to drag her on a murderous ride-along to the middle of snake-infested nowhere.

But a big case like this is just what Evan needs after a terrible mistake nearly tanked his career.

Then a dark discovery leaves Evan with only one way out; to bury the truth Russell is so determined to uncover ...

'Redbelly Crossing is a twist-lover's dream.' ANNA DOWNES

'If you are not on the edge of your seat from the first word to the last in this gripping thriller you have no soul.' JANE CARO

'A powerful novel . . . I think this is one of Candice's best books, and it was one that I couldn't put down.' SISTERS IN CRIME

Candice Fox is basically hogging all the talent; she's written like a billion books, and they're all bestsellers. She posted a painting she'd done on Instagram; it was of a kettle, but it was definitely Archibald-quality (that's how much personality she gave that kettle). Plus, in all of her spare time, she rescues wildlife. And she seems nice? It's bloody rude if you ask me.

Russell and Evan Powder are brothers, both in the police force, but they haven't spoken in years. They're forced to work together after the murder of a journalist was murdered in the small town, country town of Redbelly Crossing, population 205.

Mounting evidence leads Evan to a discovery that forces Evan to bury the truth that Russell is so determined to uncover. Amidst the family drama, there are reminders that life isn't tidy and that not everything can be tied up in a neat bow. This book is twisty and will keep you guessing the whole way through!

If you like twisty Australian noir or rural crime, and you enjoy the books by Chris Hammer, Christian White, Vikki Petraitis, or J.P. Pomare, who has just been on a great Australian book tour/road trip, then I think you'll like this one.

We have a new contender for my favourite Candice Fox novel. Just brilliant. Incredible pace and excellent narration

Pure Fox brilliance

I really liked to individual characters and storyline, however I was really disappointed in the ending of Evan being used as a pawn to an ending.
It took away from the fact that both sons had a terrible life at the hands of their father.
A stronger, fairer storyline, would have shown how the brothers brought their father to justice, and were able to begin to repair their fractured relationship.
This book could have been the beginning of a strong series.

The background storyline.

The suspense in Candice's writing is relentless with superb plotting and characters you either love or hate but always have insight into. This is the case with Redbelly Crossing, but with the added intrigue of being inspired by true events ... the killings of Lynette and Maria. Candice injects genuine evil into the mind of the killer ... a true glimpse into the actions of a psychopath. Fox writes classic crime which is always rewarding and entertaining. It would be the ultimate reward for the killer/s of Lynette and Maria to get their just desserts.

Harrowing and electrifying crime and family drama.
