Jim Marlowe and his strange-looking Martian friend, Willis, are allowed to travel only so far. But one day Willis unwittingly tunes in to a treacherous plot that threatens all the colonists on Mars, and it sets Jim off on a terrifying adventure that could save - or destroy - them all.

Nothing wrong with the performance that I can recall. It's the book I largely didn't like. It was very heavy-handed Libertarian propaganda, aimed at kids. The aliens were interesting and the idea of what Mars might be like to colonise, but it was very overshadowed by the constant, preachy, Libertarian ideals.

It's too bad; if he hadn't been so busy trying to indoctrinate children, it could have been an interesting sci-fi, even with some Libertarian influence mixed in, but it was way too much, and very obviously trying to tell kids what to think. I don't even necessarily disagree with all of the ideals, but I do disagree with trying to indoctrinate children.
