About this listen
A slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance from Cara Bastone, an audio bestselling author, perfect for fans of Jo Watson, Lauren Layne and Hannah Orenstein.
A surprise pregnancy leads to even more life-changing revelations in this heartfelt, slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance of found family and unexpected love.
Eve Hatch has always been content to coast through her life, with a steady, if uninspiring, job and a cozy apartment in Brooklyn, close to her childhood best friend Willa and far from the traditional midwestern family who never really understood her.
But when she finds herself pregnant after an uncharacteristic one-night stand, her comfy life is suddenly up in the air. Eve's loyal friendship with Willa is feeling tense, right when she needs her the most, and it's actually Willa's steadfast big brother, Shep, who steps up with the most support and he's...suddenly kinda hot?
As if she needs one more complication, there's also the baby's father, who is technically supportive, but majorly conflicted. But as Eve struggles to figure out the next step in her expanding reality, she begins to realize that family and love, in all forms, can sneak up on you when you least expect it.
So well written it had me reliving my birth experiences. It perfectly navigates all the raw emotions and brings so much realism to such a life changing moment.
Will recommend the book and will definitely listen again!
Alex Finke is the best narrator I have listened to in audible to far… just wow!
She perfectly captures the moment and the emotions and I’m off to go find more of her work!

The story was a sweet slow-burn of love between Eve and Shep. I would have liked to see a little more of their connection build earlier in the book. The male characters were really likeable, especially Shep, to the point that I wonder if it was entirely plausible, given the extraordinary circumstances they were in.
There are some beautiful and challenging moments of friendship between Eve and Willa too - I'd love a follow up on what happens to Willa's story. I'm also desperately keen for some follow up about where Ethan ends up.
The end had me reaching for the tissues with happy sobs.
Excellent narration & sweet slow-burn love story

It’s truly a beautiful story. I am not a mother, I don’t have children. But going through this journey with her, it was amazing. It was like I was right there. In the room.
‘This is my life … on purpose.’ It’s lines like that - that keeps you pulled in throughout the story. It could have gone many ways, but it was written perfectly.
Cara, I have love all your books so far. They always pull me in and keep me interested for the whole journey. And that’s what this one also did. Thank you. Thank you for sharing this amazing story.
The one thing I love about the narrated version of this incredible novel, with the narrators. You can hear her smiling when she talks in certain scenes that require it. And I love that. It makes me want to automatically smile along with Eve.
All there is a scene where a spray bottle is involved and when she made the sound, I almost died. It was fantastic. Something so little that made the scene come to life.
Was a pleasure to listen to.
