Publisher's Summary

Rainbow History Class is your entry into LGBTQ+ history, sharing queer and trans stories from Ancient civilisations all the way up to the internet.

So much of queer and trans history and culture has been erased, but Hannah McElhinney, writer and creator of Rainbow History Class (as seen on TikTok), is here to help us all with this crash course. This history lesson isn’t dry and academic, nor is it glitter-soaked and reductive. It’s a comprehensive and entertaining romp through queer and trans history, full of secret queer codes, gender-bending icons, pop-culture knowledge and incredible activists.

More than anything, Rainbow History Class will make you feel connected to the stories of our rich and vibrant community. This knowledge will help spark conversations between your friends and family and be a source of comfort as you stand up for yourself and your community. This audiobook is a celebration for all LGBTQ+ people, and an invitation to the newly out that says, 'Welcome to the club, let’s get you caught up!'

With bonus audio content from Hannah and Rudy in conversation on Rainbow History.

Hannah McElhinney (she/her) is the writer and creator of Rainbow History Class, a space for sharing the queer and trans history we so rarely have the opportunity to learn. Their stories aim to inspire, educate, bring gratitude, build bridges, make you laugh, make you mad and maybe even help you win an argument.

It was so good I am going to buy the physical

There was so much history I only knew the smallest thing about, and so much more I didn't know until this book. It truly touches on all aspects of queer and trans history, portraying how much we as a community have gone through and fought for.

I highly recommend reading this book. It's informative and has humour and emotional moments. It's everything anyone could ask for when it comes to rainbow history.

If only school history was so colourful!

Fab stories, colourful people and important lessons about our rainbow history. Well researched and presented in an engaging way. A wonderful listen for me during my travels to Mardi Gras 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Fun and Educational

Very insightful and well written. had me hooked from beginning to end. Entertaining, inspiring history that left me feeling proud of the diverse humans throughouthistory and disheartened by their treatment at times.

Queer Australian Represent!

This book is a frank and beautiful journey through some of histories most important figures, let alone queer figures. It’s amazing that queer history is under taught, when it is the perfect example of peaceful protest (as peaceful as possible) and defiance through being.
Possibly the best book on this app!

Essential listening for every human

Thank you for such a comprehensive history of LGBTQIA+ history. Both positive events and the gut wrenchingly awful moments. And the narrator did an amazing job, I even tried to find more of their work to listen to.
