Story
I’m Jinx. As a private investigator, being a walking, talking lie detector is a useful skill—but let’s face it, it’s not normal. You’d think it would make my job way too easy, but even with my weird skills, I still haven’t been able to track down my parents’ killers. When I’m hired to find a missing university student, my gut tells me there’s more to this case than a party girl gone wild. I’m not the only one on her trail; she’s also being tracked by the implacable and sexy Inspector Stone. Stone and I team up, and he shoves me into a realm where magic is real.

Story
Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

Publisher's Summary
From New York Times best-selling author Kim Harrison comes the first book in an exciting urban fantasy series. Packed with the perfect balance of wry humour and thrilling action, it will delight fans of thrillers and fantasy alike.
Rachel Morgan is a white witch and runner working for Inderland Security (I.S.) in an alternate world where a bioengineered virus wiped out a great deal of the world's human population – exposing the existence of the supernatural communities that had long lived alongside humanity. For the last five years Rachel has been tracking down law-breaking Inderlanders in modern-day Cincinnati, but now she wants to leave and start her own agency. Her only problem is that no one quits the I.S.
Marked for death, Rachel will have to fend off fairy assassins and homicidal weres armed with an assortment of nasty curses. She's a dead witch walking unless she can appease her former employers by exposing the city's most prominent citizen as a drug lord. But making an enemy of the ambiguous Trent Kalamack is just as deadly as leaving the I.S.

3 star listen
Good start to a series. I always think the first one always needs to set the world in a way that you want to know more and Kim Harrison does this with this book.
Listened via audio and I enjoyed the narration.
I’ve been wanting to start this for a while as it’s been recommended quite a bit to me, however the series is massive so it took me a while.
Fmc is like 1/2 a bad arse who I think will come into her own as the series progresses. I like the secondary characters too including the “bad guy”
Pixies
Demons
Witches
Shifters
Vampires
All found in the hollows area of town.
3 star listen I’ll defo continue the series.
No smut in this one at all I don’t even thing there’s much of a love interest at this stage.
No cliffhanger.

Mesmerised
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, switching between the written book and audible, I was often drawn back by the narrator. Marguerite Gavin has really brought these characters alive for me, her portrayal of each character is clear and distinct.
