About this listen
From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Douglas comes the latest new adult romance with a bit of everything...friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, and a somewhat interesting use of public places.
Misha
I can't help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.
In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.
It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever... And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us.
Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there's one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She's the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.
We had only three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?
Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name's Ryen, loves Gallo's pizza, and worships her iPhone. What are the chances?
F--k it. I need to meet her.
I just don't expect to hate what I find.
Ryen
He hasn't written in three months. Something's wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.
Without him around, I'm going crazy. I need to know someone is listening. It's my own fault. I should've gotten his phone number or picture or something.
He could be gone forever.
Or right under my nose, and I wouldn't even know it.
©2016 Penelope Douglas (P)2017 Audible, Inc.Penelope Douglas is such a talented writer. The novel is so easy to read and the storyline had me hooked from Chapter one. I had a hard copy of the book to read in my spare time and listened to the audio version in the car. Matthew Holland and Laurie Catherine Winkel did such an exceptional job portraying Misha and Ryen and are also very talented narrators! 👏

Although I worked out most of the story surprises for myself before they became apparent, I still enjoyed the mystery and slight suspense.
The characters were great. I found Ryan to be very relatable. I think most people feel the same way as she did going through school and just wanting to fit in. Mischa was very loveable & super caring. His character was so deep and carried a lot of emotion.
I would definitely read this book again and recommend it to anyone who loves a sweet romance with a little mystery about the past. There’s a little angst but not much as they are drawn together quite quickly. Lots of steamy scenes & a sweet HEA epilogue.
Great read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It had a couple of plot twists and turns that I hadn't expected which was great. The narrations were great and didn't detract from the overall story! Sad that the book is over!
Great book and narration was really good!

I'm not sure if romance is the right word for this couple. An angsty, smutty, passionate relationship is more their style. I didn't always love how they spoke to each other (particularly Misha when he was in his hating on Ryen stage). I also thought the sexist comments and behaviours from Trey were extreme and not realistic. Same goes for the back stabbing bitchiness from the girls. That's just a toxic scenario that should have ended years ago.
Even after all of the above, I was still engrossed by their tale (although the epilogue was a bit far fetched for me). I wanted them to work out, to find the original best friend relationship they had before they met, before reality and all the other bullshit got in the way.
I listened to this on audio and I loved both voices but particularly Matthew Holland, who voiced Misha.
They were perfect until they met...
