Publisher's Summary

Zavier “Cade” McCade, former Army Special Forces and creator of Custos Securities, finds himself in a situation he never thought he'd be in - he's fallen in love with Braden Cross, the gorgeous pastry chef he's guarding. Cade has lived his life as a protector: of his country, his family and friends, his clients, and now, the man with whom he's in love. He thrives in dangerous and stressful situations. But nothing could prepare him for Braden's decision to put himself in danger.

After a vicious attack from his stalker leaves Braden fighting for his life, Cade will stop at nothing to see the man responsible punished. Time passes, but Braden's attacker hasn't given up, and Cade's afraid he never will. As Cade and the most trusted members of Custos Securities track Braden's assailant, Braden struggles to rebuild his life and reestablish the fragile trust he and Cade had worked so hard to build. Braden knows if he's going to survive the chaos surrounding him, he's going to have to give Cade everything he has - mind, body, and soul.

More determined than ever to hunt down the man who nearly killed the love of his life, Cade will do everything in his power to ensure he and Braden will be able to live the life of their dreams with nothing and no one standing in their way.

Meanwhile, hidden just out of their reach, an increasingly deranged stalker watches...and waits.

Contains mature themes.

unfortunately

Not as good as the first book unfortunately so much of the book concentrated in them talking about their feelings that nothing really substantial happened sfter Eric was dealt with and then i was just waiting for the book to finish. Shame i was looking forward to this one.

More dumb decisions and melodrama!

I had misgivings about the first book, but this was even more melodramatic. Braden Cross was kidnapped and left for dead by his crazy ex-boyfriend in the previous book. Here, co-owner of Custos Security, Zavier ‘Cade’ McCade nurtures and protects Braden but can’t stop his stalker from re-kidnapping him after Braden once again puts himself in danger. As before, Cade spends his time blaming himself and threatening cops and medical staff instead of letting them get on with their jobs. Will Braden survive this new ordeal?

This can’t be read as a stand alone. The previous book ended on a cliffhanger and lots of the first half this book is taken up with Braden’s first recovery while we wait for the plot to actually start. Once again, the action scenes were compelling, but I find Cade such a contradictory character - he’s incredibly disciplined and has courageous, having been on many dangerous military missions. And yet, he’s an aggressive emotional mess where Braden is concerned. Watching him counterproductively try and fight his way into the operating theatre during Braden’s delicate surgery was one big eye-roll. Tristan James competently narrates the audio - the first three audios are free on the Audible Plus catalogue - but, twice bitten, this isn’t the author for me, I need smarter guys.
