About this listen
A wildland firefighter reconnects in a second chance romance with his late best friend's sister, the one that got away, in the scorching hot book two in the BookTok viral Sky Ridge Hotshots series.
"Let me be your twin flame, love."
I walk into the local bar with my hotshot crew, dirty and exhausted, only to slam into my biggest regret. The twin sister of my lost best friend and the one who got away, Violette Taylor. I haven't seen her in years, but I haven't forgotten her either. I used to be Rowan to her. Now, I'm just King, the guy who broke her heart, but not for the reasons she thinks. Violette, a nurse and single mom, is back in town for good, and working hard to avoid anyone who reminds her of the past, especially a career hotshot like me. But when I fall into her care after an injury lands me in her burn unit, it feels like maybe it's fate. I know something she doesn't--life rarely offers second chances. I need to protect those I love. So, if this is my chance to make things right, I'm taking it.
Tropes:
Firefighter romance
Angst
Small town romance
Forced proximity
Second chance romance
Friend to Lovers
Hurt Care
Workplace romance

The characters are too perfect, the relationship is frictionless, and despite the sheer volume of smut, nothing actually evolves. The emotional arc is static: they’re madly in love, then having sex, then having more sex — repeat until the end. No meaningful conflict, no real tension, no moments where the relationship is genuinely tested.
The spice quickly becomes repetitive and mechanical. It stops revealing character or deepening intimacy and starts to feel like filler — the same scene on loop with minor variations. When sex doesn’t change anything emotionally, it loses its impact fast.
This reads less like a romance and more like idealised wish-fulfilment. Everything is sanitised, disagreements are shallow, and resolutions come too easily. Real relationships are messy; this one is polished to the point of being boring.
If you’re looking for comfort smut with perfect partners and zero emotional risk, this might work for you. If you want depth, growth, or chemistry that actually builds instead of stagnates, this isn’t it.
