Publisher's Summary

He seethes with raw power the first time I see him - pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He's dangerous. He's wild. He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

So, I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets, too. Then, he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it's getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night, I can't stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that's the thing about an animal in a cage - you never know when he'll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can't call for the cops. He might make you come so hard you can't think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath...

Praise for the book:

"Sexy, dark, and thrilling. I loved every second of it!" (The New York Times best-selling author Katie Reus)

"Dark, sexy, and intense, Prisoner is an emotional ride that does not let go until the end. I loved it!" (USA Today best-selling author Kristen Callihan)

Intriguing story...keeps you wanting more

Loved the story. Jacob Morgan was awesome... Laura Sweet is terrible wish it was a different female narrator.
I wish more books would get the male to say his part and the female to do hers makes it flow. Though Jacob is sooo good and his voice is amazing.

WELL DONE LADIES 👏.. AN UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE STORY

Wow.. I was truly captivated as this gritty romance took me on a suspenseful rollercoaster, it swept me up in an unpredictable tale of a hardened prisoner and his bookish captive, it chilled me to the bone with not one.. but two damaged soul’s backstories and it blew me away with a beautiful romance that was initially built on fear. It was different, it had hold-your-breath action and edgy drama, it had heat and heart, it had an infamous anti-hero and a strong heroine and it had a tight brotherhood of alpha men who’d all gone through the same childhood abuse and trauma in the basement when they were just young boys.

Worth a credit? Grayson and Abby’s dual PoV love story is a bitter-sweet slow-burn from a firestorm beginning and their chemistry and dynamics were intense. It’s an emotionally gripping dark fantasies tale.. and I loved it. It’s got depth, dubious (but redeemable) conduct, good character growth and it’s a great introduction to these emotionally tortured, but loyal, very damaged brothers who’ve sworn allegiance to each other.. and sworn revenge. And yes, IMO, it’s definitely creditworthy. Great 5 star narration by Jacob Morgan whose chilling, heartwarming and sexy vibes brought Grayson’s initially intimidating ‘capture, kill, conquer, control, consume’ conflicted feelings.. and his new possessive awakened love, to life.. and Lauren Sweet’s narration was good too.

Female Narrator is a NO for me

This audiobook had the potential to be great, but the female narrator made me cringe throughout the entire book. Her narration is SO OVERDRAMATIZED and at times sounds like she’s singing in a Broadway show and I’m like UGH STOP IT!!! She did a great male voice though, but as Abby, I gagged. Ease up on the drama and breathiness sheesh! Jacob Morgan was PERFECTION as always. The story was just okay.

More Please!!!

WOW... I loved this. I didn't think I would. In the first few pages when the CO was giving Abby a hard time, I had instant flashbacks to my first days in prison (I did 3 years for a car accident, Sounds crazy right.... well it was a cop that I hit. So I was screwed!). I also am a recovering heroin addict. So when Abby was talking about her mother, It def brought up some feelings. So I thought I would hate it. Because unless you've been there, you can't know. But these authors did an amazing job. A good book is supposed to bring up feelings, and that is exactly what this book did. Both narrators were amazing! I saw a few people commenting on the female's narration, but I LOVED her. I loved her voice. She sounded like a real performer, in my opinion. When a story is told by two different POV, why wouldn't you want two different voices? I don't know... People are weird.
This book was given to me at my request, Thank you Audiobook Obsession. You guys always have the best books! You never disappoint. My review is honest and Voluntary.

Prison break with romance

Out story starts with Abby teaching a class an English class at a prison for her collage project. Sparks fly between Grayson ( an inmate) and Abby. Abby is then captured and taken prisoner by Grayson during his prison break. We learn the reason that Grayson was in prison and that he has tragic background, just like Abby. Grayson then embarks on a revenge mission and takes Abby along for the ride. This story is somewhat dark but does have a HEA. The book had duel narration which I love, because you get 2 POV with this story line. I enjoyed Jacob more than Lauren- she was a little too dramatic for my tastes but overall still a good performance. #Audio Obsession Reviewer

Boo for female narrator.

Jacob Morgan is the reason I keep getting these kind of books. His voice is sexy as hell! The female in this one though. Oi! Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me. Just when I was about to quit, Mr. Morgan would come on. He kept me hanging on but I will never get a book with this lady again. Robotic and nasal, no emotion. Blegh.

Perfection!

This story draws you in right from the beginning, the sweet and proper Abigail locking eyes a irresistible prison inmate. The intrigue only goes up from there, weaving a heartbreaking tale of how Greyson ended up there. Action, forbidden steamy romance, mystery-it's all there. The performances on both parts are spot on, Lauren Sweet excellent as usual and Jacob Morgan...*swoon*. Did you think you could ever fall in love with a prisoner?.... because after Jacob's performance please sign me up! One of the best books i've heard in a while. Highly recommend!

Jacob Morgan’s voice ❤️

Jacob Morgan could have done the entire narration. Lauren Sweet was irritating. I would actually cringe every time I heard her voice. She’s nasally and sing songie if that makes sense. I don’t know if I can listen to another book when she is involved

Dark, intense and good

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart or squeamish. It’s dark, intense, gritty, nail biting, edge of your seat good. Great collaboration with these two authors. Jacob & Lauren did a phenomenal job narrating.

Dark and dangerous

Gritty but very good.
When sweet and (seemingly) innocent Abby is required to teach a writing class at Kingman Correctional Facility she wants nothing to do with the prisoners or this writing assignment. Being inside the dark prison walls just makes her more aware of the darkness she keeps buried deep inside. She just needs to keep her head and not attract any unwanted attention. But that's not going to be possible once Greyson sets his sights on her.

I really enjoyed this story

It is such a different style and story than I am used to hearing. I really liked the idea of her being a person who inputs herself into a prison. The narration was gret as well and I definitely will be moving on to the rest of the books in this series!!!

This is just everything it shouldn’t be…

So this book is a tribute to male dominance, sexual abuse (even rape), female submission and Stockholm syndrome on steroids. It’s romanticizing sexual force and abuse and turning it tastelessly exotic. It’s so problematic I can’t even begin. It’s only redemption is the rather gripping and unpleasant description of the boys in the basement.

And then, as if it wasn’t enough with what I mentioned above, we have the narrating. I’m sure the narrators have a plan of some sort but the narrating is awful. Sorry narrators I’m sure you’re wonderful people. But the male narrating is amazingly dull, maybe that was what he was aiming for. Emotionless and suppressed from the experienced abuse in his history. But it doesn’t fit the actual words of the author. And her voice is so horribly made up, whiny and over dramatic I cringed more than once.

This could have been a good story, even hot. But it’s not. She says no and he takes her without caring. It’s a No-means-yes story with focus on HIS pain and limitations. His journey from broken ruthlessness towards softness and healing and it COULD have been valuable, it had potential, but without problematizing around it, it’s just in bad taste.

Someone stated in the reviews that this was just enough without crossing the boarders or taking it too far. Maybe that is a problem in itself. If we find glorifying and romanticizing sexual abuse, force and female submission to be “not taking it too far”… then we have work to do.

Nice audiobook!

I love a dark romance story and this one was a good pick!
Liked all characters and I found the story well written except for a few "discrepancies" (SPOILERS: She's not supposed to see well without her glasses but several time she describes details even in the dark... And after she got her hands bloody they never speak about it again etc).
I like that it's never black and white, right or wrong. It doesn't go to dark either, always on the line I would say. I would have preffered a bit more details on the main characters' back stories, like a few hours longer to fill up the blank would have been great!

The woman narrator wasn't great unfortunately, it's not her voice but more the way she speaks, personality I didn't like it. For this story at least.

The man narrator was terrible!....
Says NO ONE EVER when referred to Jacob Morgan! Is it even possible for him to do it wrong? I don't think so. Always on point, great emotion, best voice ever! Please Jacob could you do like ALL the audio books? Thanks!

I'll read the second book of this series right away because I'm really intrigued about Stone (not at all to listen to Jacob Morgan longer, no no...), hoping to get more back story details!

What a great beginning

I love a good dark romance.

I've been sitting on this for a few days because I have not been able to find the words to write this review.

I was fortunate enough to have already listened to Hostage which is book two in the series and have always wanted to read/listen to this one.

It did not disappoint.

Grayson and Abby is sort of lust-at-first sight but so much darker. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with this one (since I had spoilers) but it's amazing all on its own.

It has angst, steam, suspense, and feelings.

The ending is everything I could wish for and I hope to get more stories in this series soon!

My Thoughts on Prisoner

This book was an insane thrilling ride of a story. But it's one I didn't want to put down. It is definitely what I would call a dark romance, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The two main characters met in some of the worst of circumstances to make a connection and yet they felt inevitable. What happened after that most of the time I just couldn't predict. But it's one of the things I loved. The surprise of it.

All of the characters were very well developed as well. Not just the main characters but the secondary ones too. And it has me crossing my fingers for more of their stories.

The narrators did a fantastic job with this one. Jacob Morgan is a favorite of mine and I just thought he was perfect for this particular character. He's really good at giving voice to dark, complex leading men and helping me connect with them. Lauren Sweet was a bit newer for me but I was very impressed. I also thought she was a good fit for this role. She pulled off young, strong and a fighter quite well. I would love to hear more from both these narrators in future.

Prisoner 🖤

A well written book. A jailbreak, brings Abby and Greyson together in a dark adventure. He is a prisoner, she is his savior. Their journey has strong emotions and it’s tough. I love all Skye Warren, and paired with Annika Martin is a win win. The narrators give the story the right feelings.

Raw, intense, and breathtakingly beautiful

I loved every single moment of this book. The raw emotion. The deep, dark, intensity of the main characters. It sucked me, chewed me up, and spit me out in the most beautiful way.

At the beginning of the book I was concerned about the way Jacob Morgan was playing the park of the MMC. There was a monotone to the voice that felt off putting. As I listened further I realized that the almost lack of emotion spoke deeply to the broken state of the character. I loved it. Lauren Sweet's portrayal of the FMC was also impeccable. Both narrators were able to bring so much depth with their performances. This story has risen quickly to the top of my favorite book list.
