About this listen

A loveless marriage of convenience on the Kansas prairie turns out to be far more than she bargained for....

He's part of the west

Briggs Brigman has been burned once before, and the last thing he needs is a beautiful wife who will spend hours in front of the mirror, primping herself. He knows how hard the prairie can be on a woman, and all he wants is a stalwart bride who won't complain about hauling water from the creek....

She's a city girl with no idea what she's in for....

All Sarah MacFarland wants is to escape her fearful life in Boston and start fresh with a new identity. Answering an advertisement for a mail order bride seems like the perfect solution, until she meets her soon-to-be husband - a ruggedly handsome, strapping farmer who leaves her breathless on their wedding night. But is it possible that two tormented souls can find happiness, when all they know is betrayal, and when trust is the only way out of a tumultuous past that simply won't stay buried?

Contains mature themes.

I loved this story and am very glad I hung on for the rocky road. It would have been lovely to have heard the real wedding presumably at the end, but never mind it was great anyway.
Good strong characters excellent narration made for good listening.

A really interesting love story not for the faint of heart

Of course being a love story it had a HEA but the journey towards that ending was fraught with a lot of obstacles. I for one would don’t want to be involved in a locust plague but as a reader/listener I held on until the situation resolved itself but felt as if I was right there living that experience. No matter which part of the world early settlers ended up in they all endured many hardships but love overcomes adversity. A great story. However, I prefer a lot of medical experiences undertaken in the present day but am happy to visit yesteryear for a while, and thus enjoy some ways from the bygone era.

It took a while for the hero and heroine to sort out the issues.
