About this listen

Here are the excruciatingly funny adventures of Suzanne Vale — a young film star and drug addict — who survives a rehab clinic only to rejoin the equally harrowing world of Hollywood. Out there on the edge, despair flips into hilarity, and we're left laughing as Suzanne struggles to come to terms with her various fantasylands.

This stunning literary debut — read by author and actress Carrie Fisher herself — evokes the deliciously irreverent humor that formed the lens through which Fisher looked at life in the '80s: the stardom, the success, the sex — as well as the drugs, the desperation, and the insecurity.

I was genuinely sad when this ended. I read it in book form years ago and watched the movie and loved both. To listen to Carrie read it is just wonderful. Definitely one I’ll listen to over and over.

Didn’t want it to end

I loved this!
I found the writing witty and compelling and I kept rewinding in case I missed something because every line was creative and provocative and I didn't want to miss anything!
I loved the story and how the dark and serious subject matter was told with much unseriousness. Around every corner was a hidden giggle!
The palpable vulnerability and torment resonated with my inner dark side, but in a way that lightened it somehow.
I now feel like I did when Douglas Adams died.. That is, we are definitely lesser beings now without her words, ideas, and humour to uplift us.
I'll be reading anything else I can get my hands on!

I wish I discovered her sooner!
