Story
The Christian church has a long tradition of systematic theology - that is, studying theology and doctrine organized around fairly standard categories such as the word of God, redemption, and Jesus Christ. This introduction to systematic theology has several distinctive features: a strong emphasis on the scriptural basis for each doctrine and teaching; clear writing, with technical terms kept to a minimum; and a contemporary approach, treating subjects of special interest to the church today.

Story
From Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to the New York Times' 1619 project, the modern Left views American history through the lens of competing oppressions, replacing the traditional understanding that all Americans are part of a shared journey toward the perfection of universal ideals. Their attacks on the values that built our nation, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, are insidious because they replace each of them with nothing beyond an increased reliance on the government.

Publisher's Summary
A variety of perspectives exist within the Christian community when it comes to political issues and political involvement. This comprehensive and listenable book presents a political philosophy from the perspective that the Gospel pertains to all of life - so Christians should be involved in political issues. In brief, this is an analysis of conservative and liberal plans to do good for the nation, evaluated in light of the Bible and common sense.
In this ground-breaking book, recognized evangelical Bible professor Wayne Grudem rejects five mistaken views about Christian influence on politics: (1) "compel religion", (2) "exclude religion", (3) "all government is demonic", (4) "do evangelism, not politics", and (5) "do politics, not evangelism". He proposes a better alternative: (6) "significant Christian influence on government". Then he explains the Bible's teachings about the purpose of civil government and the characteristics of good or bad government. Does the Bible support some form of democracy? Should judges and the courts hold the ultimate power? With respect to specific political issues, Grudem argues that most people's views depend on deep-seated assumptions about several basic moral and even theological questions, such as whether God exists, whether absolute moral standards can be known, whether there is good and evil in each person's heart, whether people should be accountable for their good and bad choices, whether property should belong to individuals or to society, and whether the purpose of the earth's resources is to bring benefit to mankind.
After addressing these foundational questions, Grudem provides a thoughtful, carefully reasoned analysis of over 50 specific issues dealing with the protection of life, marriage, the family and children, economic issues and taxation, the environment, national defense, relationships to other nations, freedom of speech and religion, quotas, and special interests.

A window into a Christian's view of US politics
Has some insights into how a particular evangelical views US politics in about 2010. Feels a little dated now. While having strong opinions isn't necessarily bad, it feels like some of the matters will be polarizing. Grudem argues that the Bible generally is closer to the right wing (though at times he disagrees with the right as well). Audible needs to add chapter titles. This feels a little long for an audio book and feels better suited as a reference work.

It was information that needs to be told and understood. The writer does a great job of both.

Did not finish, maybe I will later
I tried my best to finish it but couldn't. It's not 'Politics according to the Bible,' rather it's how to make the Bible support conservative/Republican views on political issues. The author seems to believe that the American political system is perfect and it's what God had in mind when creating the world. This system devoid of love and caring little for the oppressed is far from perfect, and far from the ideal one can come to when actually following the Bible. I can only say that this book points to interesting topics that we should be aware of, but in my opinion, it does not offer a biblical view of political issues.

good starting point for Christians on politics.
This is a good resource for Christians who are seeking a biblical world view when it comes to politics. I would recommend reading this first before picking up a text book or taking a class on politics.

Outstanding systematic dissertation
I love the systematic and compelling evaluation of the political process and governance in light of the Bible. There are two points that I think Wayne is a little naive but all others are great!

Decent book about politics
Listening on audible is a little hard for this book because the audible chapters don't line up with the book chapters so if you want to go to a chapter on immigration for example it may not be just click chapter 25. The rationale in the book was good and I respect Wayne Grudem immensely but not all of his facts/statistics are accurate so definitely take care before spouting off some of his data. All that said even though there are parts I disagree with he did help root me better in why I typically lean conservative and why things like Supreme Court judges are critical. Listening via audible allowed me to learn this information which I never would have sat down to read.

God-inspired Book!
I have totally enjoyed going through this book. Very insightful and prophetic in its predictions of how our American country and others will go when political leaders are immoral and against God’s laws. It’s a must read or listen to! God bless you Prof. Wayne Grudem!
