Publisher's Summary

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor

Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work.

The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. Until the night the girls find themselves on a dark highway, bruised and bloodied.

Senior Detective Bronwen McKay and psychologist Megan Arlotti question the terrified girls. But Hayley and Gemma are telling two very different stories of what happened to them over the past three months.

Which story is the truth, and what are the girls covering up? A suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Outback Australia, feel the heat and humidity

I loved the story right from the start. This story is told so well. Full of new clues, twists and characters. Great story to listen to when you are travelling the outback of Australia.

A disappointing book

I am currently into checking out many Australian "who done its", so when l came across this book l decided to give it a read. All l can say is a very disappointing outing. I struggled to complete it as it was not worth the effort at all. Check it out at a local Library The reader Ames Horne did an excellent job reading - but she couldn't make up for the lack of a credible story.

Its hard to know what to say about this book, different, thought provoking and mentally challenging

You think you understand but then you don’t. I sometimes wonder how writers choose the story foundation. With this one there was a point where I wondered what my idea of a worst nightmare scenario would be. It wouldn’t even reach this plot. Worth the read. Broadened my horizons, yet again.

Sublime to ridiculous!

The beginning had so much promise of intrigue and crime in a realistic setting. It soon became apparent that this wasn’t the case with a cliched corny Svengali baddie a set up in rural Australia that simply wouldn’t exist and unintelligent characters. It went from dire to dreadful and was actually laughable in the end it was so far fetched. Some may like this kind of fiction but I’d like mine at least semi plausible. The narration was the best but but even that got on my nerves in the end because the characters were so unbelievable.

Starts well but becomes progressively tedious and ridiculous

Good idea. Good initial characterisation and compelling first part to the story. But part two deteriorates sharply. Very dull repetitive accounts of life at the farm. Combined with characters and events that are so unpleasant it becomes hard to listen to. The plot becomes progressively ridiculous and I ceased to believe in the characters and lost interest. The last two hours are plain silly. Stuck it out but it was painful.

Really different

The first 3/4 of this book was brilliant, really different to anything else I have heard, no idea where the storyline is going. I was totally hooked. Last 1/4 was a bit disappointing, it got a bit fantastical and slightly ridiculous. Rather disappointed as I think I would have given it 5 stars otherwise. Narrator is brilliant.

Absolutely ludicrous

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a novel that has tried to cram as many “plot twists” into a single story as this one. It goes from predictably bad to predictably worse to completely and utterly bizarre. It throws out after cliche in an attempt to “surprise” the reader, which to some extent it achieves... but not in a good way.

Disappointing

This book started well and had me hooked for a while, then began to go off. By the end I was hardly listening and didn't care what happened. It got a bit silly. I wish authors would come up with endings instead of resorting to a shoot out.

Excellent story and great narration

Got hooked on this book pretty quickly. No spoilers but Part 2 kicks everything off in a twisty way. All round a great book, plenty of well hidden secrets and excellent characters

I hated this book

I only listened to this because I had paid for it and audible wouldn’t let me return it. It was dreadful. So drawn out and everyone in it so thick. That’s all I can say. Don’t bother with it.
