Publisher's Summary

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor

Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work.

The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. Until the night the girls find themselves on a dark highway, bruised and bloodied.

Senior Detective Bronwen McKay and psychologist Megan Arlotti question the terrified girls. But Hayley and Gemma are telling two very different stories of what happened to them over the past three months.

Which story is the truth, and what are the girls covering up? A suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

A bit too long and not quite believable but I enjoyed it

Bit confusing at times but on the whole I found myself wanting to read on. Loved the narration.

Better than 5 stars!!!

What a great book: gripping story, set in the NT, very well described characters, and the performance was perfect! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can only highly recommend it!

Great narrator with a mostly suspenseful story

Aimee Horne shares this story so well, drawing the listener into the mystery. The story is good with a great twist at the end.

Twists and turns a plenty!

A very enjoyable listen of a well told story that evolved and developed right to the very end.

A new favourite

This kept me hooked word for word, chapter to chapter!
Easily the best narration of a story I’ve heard so far, which definitely helped push the book over the line of great to fantastic for me.
TW for SA mention, but it wasn’t overly indulgent which I immensely appreciated.
So loving reading more Australian authors, so Anni’s contributions were wonderful but I couldn’t differentiate authors chapter to chapter, which is a feat in its own - Sarah was just as wonderful!

Bit slow and gory at the start, but stick with it

I found it a bit hard to cope with at the start but the story does get you involved eventually and then it becomes hard to stop listening.
Narration was excellent and characters accents were spot on.
Stick with it and you will enjoy it, I will listen to another by these two authors.

Hard to say

it's a good story overall I think but it gets too confusing after a while, too many twists, didn't need them all, and then they didn't make sense.

SPOILER
How could Jemma not remember anything constantly, but then she's the one who the drugs DON'T work on? couldn't get over this at all

Chemist? mad scientist more like!

A little too weird for my liking! None the less I couldn't stop listening.
I liked the main characters...apart from 'the chemist ' of course.
Narration was good as well. I just had to replay 'the whispering' each time it came around.
