Publisher's Summary

First there was the mystery of the film star and the diamond...then came the "suicide" that was murder...the mystery of the absurdly cheap flat...a suspicious death in a locked gun-room...a million dollar bond robbery...the curse of a pharoah's tomb...a jewel robbery by the sea...the abduction of a prime minister...the disappearance of a banker...a phone call from a dying man...and, finally, the mystery of the missing will.

What links these fascinating cases? Only the brilliant deductive powers of Hercule Poirot!

Short Stories Last Longer

I love the short story collections, they always last longer because I can listen to one or two a day, whereas the last Poirot novel I listened to I finished in one day!! Strangely, David Suchet's narration is not as good as others, maybe because he doesn't have to do the whole package (actions, voice, mannerisms) he goes a bit overboard on the accent and it can sound comical instead of his excellent work on tv. In my mind Hugh Fraser is definitely the best. Still a very satisfying collection, but if you have Murder In Paradise a lot of the same stories are in both collections.

Clever and witty

Poirot takes on many unusual cases and showcases his little grey cells to remarkable advantage. Very enjoyable, the performances are true to life and very believable. Especially “la grippe”!

Suchet a wonder!

If you could sum up Poirot Investigates in three words, what would they be?

Excellent Entertainment Extraordinary

The excellent charactisations of Suchet brings the personalities to life.

A true Poirot experience.

David Suchet portraits Poirot to a "T"! Fantastic work and the stories, as always, wonderful.

David Suchet IS Hercule Poirot

A faithful reading of the Poirot stories by the man himself - David Suchet. Very pleasant listening with humour and drama, even though I know the stories so well.

A full cast recording would be the only improvement, but David Suchet's range of character interpretations was masterful.

This I shall listen to again and again with equal enjoyment.

Wrong Reader, Good Stories

A good collection of stories, but beware if you're a fan of Hugh Fraser and don't listen to the preview before buying. This collection is actually read by David Suchet (Poirot in the TV series) and NOT Fraser.

The stories themselves are good and varied, ideal to dip in and out of. Much less 'murder mystery' and more towards the Jewel heist type story than Christie's other books, but all are well written with satisfying endings. Recommended then, but again, listen to the preview before buying

Not great on many levels.

Would you try another book written by Agatha Christie or narrated by David Suchet?

Wasn't keen on the narrations, especially that of Hastings who was irritating . Sound quality was poor compared to other recordings.

If you’ve listened to books by Agatha Christie before, how does this one compare?

Poorly.

What aspect of David Suchet’s performance might you have changed?

Better quality, better supporting cast.

Any additional comments?

Makes me realise how far we have come. I know casual racism was an accepted thing in older novels, even in Just William and John Buchan books. But this is the first time I have been offended by an Agatha Christie one where the constant reference to " chinks, orientals and slitty eyes " was common during one of the readings.

Poirot Short Stories

David Suchet to me is Poirot. He knows the character inside and out. An excellent listen.

Passed the time of day

Not the best Agatha Christie I didn't think. Actually bought as an introduction to Poirot for 12-year-old sons but listened to it myself. I think they would have enjoyed it more than me.
