About this listen
I can’t tell if we’re fighting…or flirting?
Being traded to the Seattle Vipers has left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, they’re my team, the team I’ve loved and supported since I was a kid, but on the other hand, he’s here. Him. Ant Decker. Infamous NHL bad boy. Right wing to my left. A man who’s made it his sole purpose in life to be better than me.
Well, the joke’s on him, because I’m faster, and my stats are better than his.
Not that I’m competing with him. Of course not. I wouldn’t stoop to his level.
He’s the most infuriating person I’ve ever met. A dark, chaotic presence that distracts me.
When we’re not coming to blows on the ice, he tries to provoke me by calling me Princess. And Pretty Boy...and Babygirl.
I hate it. Obviously, I do. It makes me so angry I can hardly see straight.
So why does my body react as if I like it?

There are a lot of MM hockey stories out there, and this one did have a few of the same tropes repeated, but the characters were sweet and I like their story enough that I will listen to the next book in the series when it’s available

I love sports romances and the strong enemies-to-lovers trope made this all the sweeter—talk about a ‘heated rivalry’! Poor Robbie, he really is just a nice guy who’s been unfairly targeted by someone who doesn’t play nicely with others. I felt for Decker. Whereas Robbie considered himself straight with a few curious bi thoughts, Decker has always known he’s gay and he struggles with the fear of being exposed which stokes his aggression. Having said all that, this wasn’t a heavy story, it was fun and light with medium angst, some genuinely well-written characters and plenty of trademark JHR steam. As is often the case with a bi-awakening story, I was a little surprised at how easily Robbie, who had never been with a man before, embraced his same-sex attraction and the sex. I also enjoyed the match scenes, there were some great sporting moments. 🎧 Voice acting dream team Liam DiCosimo was perfectly cast as bubbly Robbie and Tim Paige was brilliant as growly Decker. I’ve listened to these guys team up so many times and their voices work very well together.
Sports and steam—what’s not to love?
