Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Publisher's Summary
Barrie works an indisputable magic on listeners of all ages in this classic tale of the boy who wouldn't grow up. As a baby, Peter Pan fell out of his carriage and was taken by fairies to Neverland. There, he can fly and is the champion of the Lost Boys and a friend to the fairy Tinker Bell. Revisiting England, Peter becomes involved with Wendy Darling and her younger brothers, all of whom accompany Peter to Neverland. The children have many adventures and vanquish the pirate Captain Hook. The Darlings eventually return home with the Lost Boys, leaving Peter Pan to his perpetual boyhood.
Since Peter Pan first appeared as a play in 1904, the boy hero has achieved mythological status in the English-speaking world. The story's emotional truths about youth, freedom, and responsibility continue to touch the heart and thrill the imagination.
James Matthew Barrie (1860 - 1937) was born in Scotland, the son of a weaver and the ninth of 10 children. His mother saw to it that he was educated, despite the family's low income. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and spent two years on the Nottingham Journal before settling in London as a freelance writer in 1885. His short stories, essays, and novels were well received, and he began to gain a fine reputation as a playwright. His most enduring work is Peter Pan, which is based on stories he made up for children in his neighborhood.

I will listen again and again
This is perhaps my favorite audible so far. I have listened to this with my daughters three times now. It is much more fascinating than the Disney version of Peter Pan. The story is interesting enough to keep both adults and children engaged. The narrator is also very good. He adds a lot of value to this book. I will likely listen to this a few more times at the least, and this was money well spent!

A Delightful and Moving Experience
Listening to Peter Pan read by Christopher Cazenove was a delightful and moving experience, a story of exuberant childlike imagination (in which the line between make-believe play and real adventure is blurry) with an undercurrent of painful adult loss. One moment we are laughing at the pathetic pirate Smee, the unlucky Lost Boy Tootles, the conflicted Captain Hook (who can never resolve the dilemma of "good form"), or the playful narrator (who likes to hint at doom on the horizon or to remind us that we are after all only spectators), the next moment we are sighing at the sadness of Peter Pan's existence or at the inevitability of maturity and mortality. Wendy and Peter playing at being and almost becoming the parents of the Lost Boys is affectingly humorous and sad, because it is not quite the real thing and because it cannot continue.
Christopher Cazenove's reading of the book is flawless and engaging (just as is his reading of Howard Pyle's The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood). He doesn't need to change his voice dramatically to represent different characters, because his emotional engagement with them is so affecting.
I love Barrie's fusion of ideal (joyful innocent play) and real (heartless selfishness and forgetfulness) childhood. He channeled his conflicting feelings for children, childhood, parents, and adulthood into a charming and moving classic. If you've only ever seen the Disney version of the story, or if you've never experienced Peter Pan in any form, I highly recommend this audiobook version of it. I know that I'll listen to this book again many times.

The most artistic reading, great for ESL listeners
English is not the first language for my daughters and me, so I was looking for a very clear and dramatic reading of this book. The intricate over-a-century-old language, and complex phrases with unique twist of Barry's humor may be difficult to grasp for a non-native speaker, but Christopher Casenove's voice and his talented dramatic representation of each character made this book not just approachable, but my kids' and mine favorite! I've listened for the examples of other actors' readings of this book, but chose Christopher Casenove's for his artistic approach to reading of the book, his clear pronunciation, and his mazing, voice, and I've got all I expected plus more. Christopher Casenove's artistic reading makes "Peter Pan" shine as a true masterpiece this book is!

It is shockingly good storytelling.
What made the experience of listening to Peter Pan the most enjoyable?
The narrator, Christopher Cazenove, is so — so, so — fantastic. The ideal person for this book.
Any additional comments?
I had heard Whoopi Goldberg recommend this book on TV. And, I thought, "Really...'Peter Pan'!" What could she find fascinating about "Peter Pan"? So, I clicked on the book here, and "oh...my gosh!" 10 sentences in and I was hooked — terrible pun but true. Now, I am so glad I took her suggestion: it is storytelling magic at its best. J.M. Barrie's imagination and fluidity of thought and word is irresistibly powerful.

A fun kids story with a deeper moral
It holds a strong resemblance to its Disney adaptation, which is something you can’t exactly say about most other stories that have been “Disnified”. If you enjoy the general concept of Peter Pan, you will not be disappointed. Especially with the ending, which is much different from the movie’s. Arguably better.

bland "performance" ... mostly just reading
Get the Roald Dahl books and listen to those ..
. specifically Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... then, you'll hear what a real performance is.
The reading of this book is fine ... but pretty boring. it didn't hold out interest because it isn't really a "performance," it is mostly just reading that is not engaging.

One of my top 10 books.
Where does Peter Pan rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
What can I say, it's Peter Pan one of the best books ever, as far as I'm concerned. It's just so whimsical and imaginative and original every child should have someone read this book to them.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
It's already a Disney film one of there best.

Really very good.
The voice actor us really good, the story is far better, deeper and darker than anything I've watched with it and the witty insights into parent/child relationships that are as true as they were in the 1910s. Even more touching considering its origins.
Was prepared to be underwhelmed. I wasn't. Very happy.

I was disappointed with this product, the story seems much more dated than I remembered, lots of stuff about hidden kisses at the corner of Mrs Darling's mouth which I found dull. Cazenove's performance is lacklustre. i struggled with this I must admit.
