Mens han skrev bogen MIN MOR VAR BESAT blev han ramt af en svær depression og måtte til sidst indlægges på en lukket, psykiatrisk afdeling. På trods af, at Peter Øvig har arvet nogle af sin mors psykiske udfordringer, så lever han et helt andet liv end hans mor gjorde.
