My Big Fat Greek Nightmare

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If they are interested in true crime, yes, absolutely.

Any additional comments?

Better than average true crime book. Just proves that ANYONE can be fooled by a sociopath. The fact that this good hearted, intelligent, hard working woman and her family had no clue who this creep really was is a testament to the cold craft and manipulative skills of this particular breed of psycho. Well written, good read all around.

Be careful when your family says he's a really nice Greek boy

Loved the story about a first generation Greek woman who marries a "charming "Greek immigrant only to wake up to the nightmare that he's a Greek wolf in sheep's clothing.

Engrossing

This is a better-than-average telling of the story of a sociopathic murderer and the havoc he wreaked on his victims.
Thanks to author Provost for letting the sorry tale stand on its own merits without resorting to an examination of the lives of peripheral characters such as investigating officers.
Good narration by Arthur Flavell who has obviously taken the time and care to check the pronunciation of names and words that are a little out of mainstream usage.

Kind of long

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Too many uses of 'then he say, then she said, then he said, then she said....'

Any additional comments?

Would have like to know how the people are now.

Crazy tale, super boring narrator!

The story is nuts, and full of juiciness and mischief. The writing is pretty solid for the genre. The only downside is the dry-as-crackers narrator, who has one tone, which is mono. Try before you buy if you're sensitive to narrators that have absolutely no inflection.

Writing leaves much to be desired...

Would you try another book from Gary Provost and/or Arthur Flavell?

I believe I have several books read by Arthur Flavell, but this is my first from Gary Provost and I wouldn't recommend anything of his.

Would you ever listen to anything by Gary Provost again?

No... The writing leaves much to be desired. Lots of "he said, she said, he said, he said, she said", over and over and over.

Have you listened to any of Arthur Flavell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I believe so, he's great when listening to a book from a male perspective. This book would have probably been better with a female voice, because it does revolve heavily around the wife of the killer. I think I would have felt more attached to the story that way.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It was odd. That's all I have to say about it. I did some research on the people involved in this story (since the book is rather dated), and I was happy to see that Lisa is alive and well with a new husband. Kosta is still sitting on death row, however, there is no scheduled date for his execution.

Any additional comments?

I think there are much better crime stories.

The narrator was so bad, I gave up

I love true crime stories, and I'm definitely intrigued by this one however the lack of emotion and the monotone voice of the narrator just makes me not want to finish. Just a very bland delivery that made me give up after half of the book.

Perfect Husband

If you’ve listened to books by Gary Provost before, how does this one compare?

I really liked "Without Mercy" better

Any additional comments?

I love true crime books, and normally I finish them within days......well, it took me months to finish this one. It gets boring and drags on, there are books that are a lot more interesting than this one.

Needs a better narrator.

The story was well told however the narration was a bit dry. Intersting true crime.

You can't make this stuff up

Stranger than fiction. Kinda remarkable people like the novel's vilain (in every sense of the word) actually exist. Darkly entertaining.
