Publisher's Summary

The hilarious and heartwarming account of Miranda and her life changing dog, the inimitable and most lovable Peggy.

Hello dear audiobook browser and welcome to Peggy and Me. The story of my life since getting a beautiful Shih-Tzu Bichon Frise cross puppy (I call the breed a Shitty Frise - fun) in the form of Peggy.

Some of you may be thinking: 'a book about a dog, how totally brilliant, I need hear no more, I'm sold. In which case we should be best friends and go out to tea together, every day.

Others of you may be thinking: 'a book about a dog, how totally mad, she must have officially lost it.' In which case I completely understand. For I once viewed dog owners with much suspicion. The way they obsessively talk about their dogs often using voices for them to reply; the way they have a light covering of dog hair all over their clothes and sofas; and worse, an alarming comfort and ease around excrement.

But I now get why people become so mad about their hounds. It wasn't instant love I have to admit. Getting a puppy when I was at a low ebb in my life wasn't easy - there was a lot of challenging, what I call, dog administration (dog-min), and the humiliating first trip to the vet still haunts me. It's been a bumpy old road, but Peggy has been lovingly by my side through some life changing moments and I wouldn't have coped without her. Most surprisingly she has taught me a huge amount - not how to get an old pie packet out of a bin and lick it (I could already do that), but real lessons about life and love and trust and friendship.

Put aside any doggy reservations and come walkies with Peggy and me....

Great!!

If you like dogs and stories about dogs this is a must for you. While I enjoyed this thoroughly and would listen to it again, I am not a dog person. I did in fact listen to this because I love Miranda, so while I wasn't let down and the dogcentricity of it all was done with her typical humour, I did enjoy her first book more.

Hilarious, adorable, human, honest. Loved it!!!!

Where does Peggy and Me rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Definitely one of my favourites.

Miranda Hart is brutally honest about what she sees as her flaws. She is easy to relate to, truly, truly funny and clever and the scenes she describes are charming.
I cannot recommend this book more highly and would share it with all my friends except that I have already shared self help books.

What other book might you compare Peggy and Me to, and why?

Irma Bombeck's books have some similar self deprecating humour and brilliant wit.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I related to her honest description of how she feels about relationships with both humans and her dear dog.

Any additional comments?

Simply charming and all round feel good, delightful book. LOVED it!

Very Miranda ... but there's more!

This reflection is laugh-out loud funny in many parts, but also tender, honest, witty and brave. It takes the reader on a gentle roller coaster of the sublime and the ridiculous of loving your dog. Along the way, Peggy becomes a canine beacon of hope, resilience and enthusiasm for life. Miranda Hart's narration is just what you'd expect - warm, engaging and personal. Poo-calypse has now been added irrevocably to my vocabulary!

<3 Peggy

Enjoyed some genuinely laugh out loud moments with this book - felt a little mad laughing to myself listening via earphones while others nearby had no idea what was so funny. ( fortunately these were family members who know I'm not totally crazy ;) )
This is an enjoyable heartwarming story, totally relatable for a fellow dog owner who has been known to talk to her pup and take her out for coffee at a local cafe.
Nice to have the story told by Miranda and I was a little disappointed when the tale came to an end.

Not A Comedy

I was looking for a light and funny book. I love Miranda's comedy and was hoping for a book along that line. No such luck. I am two hours in and so far we have explored a disastrous burglary, childhood disappointments and pet death upsets and a long detailed discussion of elephant abuse in Thailand. This list just names a few of the unhappy topics covered. Really not funny at all. Wish I could have not heard about the elephants.

What was equally troubling was the narration. Hart speaks very quickly and softly--which at times was hard to understand. Even worse, during the reading there was a dog barking in the background. This was a distant barking that kept me thinking that one of my dogs was in trouble somewhere. Distracting and odd.

I can't continue with this listen as I am not sure what distressing thing will come up next and I can't stand all the barking. Giving up.

Heartwarming and such fun

Discovered Miranda Hart as Chummy in Call the Midwife and became interested in her as a comedian. She narrates this audiobook both as herself and as Peggy, her diva of a dog. There are some laugh-out-loud moments as well as genuine bits of wisdom.

Delightful!

I have the actual hand held book as well! I love reading along with Miranda, letting Miranda lull me to sleep at night enabling me to wake after a lovely night's sleep. Miranda's ability to read with different voice and expression as only she can do is nothing short of painting a picture moreover her written word. Being able to be read to by Miranda herself is like being read to by My Dear Reader Chum summoned up at any whim! What other friend would do as much? "Kristie, will you read for me?" She says no every time. MDRC-every time, she says yes.

Hilarious and Heartwarming

I may be a bit biased because I love Miranda Hart's TV program, but I will admit that I was hesitant to listen to this as I am... a cat person. Even after Miranda's cat vs. dog "interlude" that I very much disagreed with, I loved this story. Her anecdotes are hilarious with their junior high humor (I too cannot say the word "ball" without giggling) and their genuine honesty. I am so glad I chose the audiobook format for this read because 7+ hours of Miranda's voice was such a joy.

Heart full of love

I've been yearning for a dog for many years. Not being able to own one for various reasons has left a nagging hole. I don't know where it came from all of a sudden a few years back. Listening to Miranda has only widened that hole into a full on ache of loneliness. This book was funny, heart wrenching and lovely. Thank you for giving a reason for this ache Miranda. I'm a crazy dog lady and I own a cat.

A truly wonderful book

There was a moment of hesitancy as I went to press the purchase button for this book on audible, would this book be as good as Miranda's "is it just me" book, which I thoroughly enjoyed, however, I needn't have worried as I write this review I realise that there are reasons for Miranda Hart's magnificence. The way Miranda expertly describes her struggles, the effort and the realisation that being different can be beautiful is pure genius. The way she tries and fails and tries again is inspiring to me because I am the same ... although I'm neither a tall beautiful woman or a brilliant writer, a TV / acting sensation or a comedian I can honestly say that I have been engrossed and loved every minute of this book.

Non dog lovers need not apply!

This is a glorious story of the dog human relationship told in Miranda's inimitable style. Even the dark, lonely scary parts of the story are given a comical skew by her off kilter view of the world. Peggy's canine contributions bring the tail (you're welcome! 😉) to vibrant life, immediately conjuring a crystal clear image of the little pooch skittering about and snaffling treats. It also provides an interesting alternate account of Miranda's rise to fame. One word of warning though. Unless you are a proud possessor of the dog goof gene, don't bother as this is (as, to be fair, suggested by the title) shamelessly dog centric and credits Peggy with providing the answers to life, the universe and everything. This, of course, is not true as it is obviously my beloved mutleys that are responsible for that! My advice, buy, make a mug of hot chocolate, listen and enjoy.

From one crazy dog lover to another💗

I love love love this book, it took me back to my first love a Border Collie called Thomas. If i could i would put lots and lots of photos of him on right now. He moved on to Heaven 3 years ago and I am now a mother of 2 children, love them very much. But as I listen to your book I missed my days as a crazy dog spinster and being with dog.

What a fun book!!!

A non story, non event

Would you try another book written by Miranda Hart or narrated by Miranda Hart?

Not based on this one. It was too rambling and disconnected

Would you ever listen to anything by Miranda Hart again?

Absolutely yes. She has a great voice for audible books

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

She loves her dog - that is brilliant.

Any additional comments?

I still like Miranda Hart - just not this book.

Love You Miranda, but not the story

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really, just passing the time whilst driving

What was most disappointing about Miranda Hart’s story?

Her reading was flat, uninteresting the the change in vocals to Peggy Voice, didnt quite hit the mark.

What three words best describe Miranda Hart’s performance?

Flat, disappointing.

Did Peggy and Me inspire you to do anything?

I just felt very sad for Miranda that she hadnt found the love her life, seemed to be in a personal bad sad space and didnt enlighten me or make me laugh.

Any additional comments?

At the beginning Miranda said that she had lost the original script and this was her second writing. So it appeared from her reading - no enthusiasm and "cheesed off" having to do it all again.
Sorry Miranda, as I do usually love your writings.

This was really disappointing. Some funny bits but on the whole quite boring and Miranda being Peggy is cringeworthy. I love Miranda but this was terrible
