Story
Well hello to you dear audiobook browser. Now I have your attention it would be rude if I didn't tell you a little about my literary feast. So, here is the thing: is it just me or does anyone else find that adulthood offers no refuge from the unexpected horrors, peculiar lack of physical coordination and sometimes unexplained nudity, that accompanied childhood and adolescence? I am proud to say I have a wealth of awkward experiences - from school days to life as an office temp - and here I offer my 18-year-old self (and I hope you, too, dear listener) some much needed caution and guidance on how to navigate life's rocky path.

When Jo Brand hosted Have I Got News For You late last year, her calm explanation of the effects of sexism on women to a bemused all-male cast turned into a viral phenomenon. There has been a whole tradition of books over hundreds of years where a father shares his wisdom with his son - started by Lord Chesterfield in the 18th century - while women have been silent (aka bullied into thinking their advice wasn't worth writing down). This book puts a stop to all that.

Jennifer Worth came from a sheltered background when she became a midwife in the Docklands in the 1950s. The conditions in which many women gave birth just half a century ago were horrifying, not only because of their grimly impoverished surroundings, but also because of what they were expected to endure. But while Jennifer witnessed brutality and tragedy, she also met with amazing kindness and understanding, tempered by a great deal of Cockney humour.

Publisher's Summary
The hilarious and heartwarming account of Miranda and her life changing dog, the inimitable and most lovable Peggy.
Hello dear audiobook browser and welcome to Peggy and Me. The story of my life since getting a beautiful Shih-Tzu Bichon Frise cross puppy (I call the breed a Shitty Frise - fun) in the form of Peggy.
Some of you may be thinking: 'a book about a dog, how totally brilliant, I need hear no more, I'm sold. In which case we should be best friends and go out to tea together, every day.
Others of you may be thinking: 'a book about a dog, how totally mad, she must have officially lost it.' In which case I completely understand. For I once viewed dog owners with much suspicion. The way they obsessively talk about their dogs often using voices for them to reply; the way they have a light covering of dog hair all over their clothes and sofas; and worse, an alarming comfort and ease around excrement.
But I now get why people become so mad about their hounds. It wasn't instant love I have to admit. Getting a puppy when I was at a low ebb in my life wasn't easy - there was a lot of challenging, what I call, dog administration (dog-min), and the humiliating first trip to the vet still haunts me. It's been a bumpy old road, but Peggy has been lovingly by my side through some life changing moments and I wouldn't have coped without her. Most surprisingly she has taught me a huge amount - not how to get an old pie packet out of a bin and lick it (I could already do that), but real lessons about life and love and trust and friendship.
Put aside any doggy reservations and come walkies with Peggy and me....

If you like dogs and stories about dogs this is a must for you. While I enjoyed this thoroughly and would listen to it again, I am not a dog person. I did in fact listen to this because I love Miranda, so while I wasn't let down and the dogcentricity of it all was done with her typical humour, I did enjoy her first book more.

Loved this audiobook!
Miranda Hart is wonderful! She is a rare combination of funny, real, vulnerable and a pleasure to listen to. As a dog person I loved her journey from a pretty low place to one where she is enjoying life and people again, all brought about by her therapist, a small dog. Around the middle of this book it was a bit underwhelming but well worth seeing through to the end. This would not be the same in a printed version, without Miranda herself reading it in her very English accent! Deborah

I loved this book/audiobook. The story of pet and owner is different for everyone, but we often find interesting similarities in our experiences... The story of Miranda and Peggy is one that has really resonated with me, and is one that I learned a lot from. I found myself laughing out loud in some moments, and found myself teary in others. Miranda Hart is hilarious, and has such a great style of writing of which I thoroughly enjoyed - it translated to audiobook so so well! Such a fun listen. Not A Comedy
I was looking for a light and funny book. I love Miranda's comedy and was hoping for a book along that line. No such luck. I am two hours in and so far we have explored a disastrous burglary, childhood disappointments and pet death upsets and a long detailed discussion of elephant abuse in Thailand. This list just names a few of the unhappy topics covered. Really not funny at all. Wish I could have not heard about the elephants.
What was equally troubling was the narration. Hart speaks very quickly and softly--which at times was hard to understand. Even worse, during the reading there was a dog barking in the background. This was a distant barking that kept me thinking that one of my dogs was in trouble somewhere. Distracting and odd.
I can't continue with this listen as I am not sure what distressing thing will come up next and I can't stand all the barking. Giving up.

An Adorable Exploration of Life With a Pet
What I Liked: Miranda remains as clever as ever in her writing and this book remains to be a great little sharing of her life. The story of how the original manuscript for this book had been lost when her apartment was burgled was a little heartbreaking and I can't imagine trying to recover from that loss. But the resulting book is a testament to her commitment to telling this story of her and Peggy. It's hard to say how this book might be received by non-dog lovers as Peggy does quickly become the focus of the narrative. This is a good and a bad thing of course depending on how you look at it, but I do feel like Miranda's efforts to convey her love for Peggy is certainly infectious enough to get anyone to consider owning a dog or at the very least feeling the need to play with one after finishing this title. What Could Have Been Better: Somewhat similar to the last book, if you expect this biography to focus more on her life as a comedian and entertainer then you'll be significantly disappointed. This doesn't make the book bad, but having the right expectations is rather important and getting the wrong idea about what this is can sour your impression of the book. At the same time, Miranda speaking as Peggy in this audio book can be something that is terribly endearing or oddly annoying. I enjoyed it, but I can totally get how it may not be everyone's cup of tea. If you weren't too impressed with Miranda speaking as a younger version of herself in the last book then I doubt her Peggy personification will do that much better.

Non dog lovers need not apply!
This is a glorious story of the dog human relationship told in Miranda's inimitable style. Even the dark, lonely scary parts of the story are given a comical skew by her off kilter view of the world. Peggy's canine contributions bring the tail (you're welcome! 😉) to vibrant life, immediately conjuring a crystal clear image of the little pooch skittering about and snaffling treats. It also provides an interesting alternate account of Miranda's rise to fame. One word of warning though. Unless you are a proud possessor of the dog goof gene, don't bother as this is (as, to be fair, suggested by the title) shamelessly dog centric and credits Peggy with providing the answers to life, the universe and everything. This, of course, is not true as it is obviously my beloved mutleys that are responsible for that! My advice, buy, make a mug of hot chocolate, listen and enjoy.

A truly wonderful book
There was a moment of hesitancy as I went to press the purchase button for this book on audible, would this book be as good as Miranda's "is it just me" book, which I thoroughly enjoyed, however, I needn't have worried as I write this review I realise that there are reasons for Miranda Hart's magnificence. The way Miranda expertly describes her struggles, the effort and the realisation that being different can be beautiful is pure genius. The way she tries and fails and tries again is inspiring to me because I am the same ... although I'm neither a tall beautiful woman or a brilliant writer, a TV / acting sensation or a comedian I can honestly say that I have been engrossed and loved every minute of this book.

A non story, non event
Would you try another book written by Miranda Hart or narrated by Miranda Hart?
Not based on this one. It was too rambling and disconnected
Would you ever listen to anything by Miranda Hart again?
Absolutely yes. She has a great voice for audible books
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
She loves her dog - that is brilliant.
Any additional comments?
I still like Miranda Hart - just not this book.

Love You Miranda, but not the story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Not really, just passing the time whilst driving
What was most disappointing about Miranda Hart’s story?
Her reading was flat, uninteresting the the change in vocals to Peggy Voice, didnt quite hit the mark.
What three words best describe Miranda Hart’s performance?
Flat, disappointing.
Did Peggy and Me inspire you to do anything?
I just felt very sad for Miranda that she hadnt found the love her life, seemed to be in a personal bad sad space and didnt enlighten me or make me laugh.
Any additional comments?
At the beginning Miranda said that she had lost the original script and this was her second writing. So it appeared from her reading - no enthusiasm and "cheesed off" having to do it all again.
Sorry Miranda, as I do usually love your writings.

From one crazy dog lover to another💗
I love love love this book, it took me back to my first love a Border Collie called Thomas. If i could i would put lots and lots of photos of him on right now. He moved on to Heaven 3 years ago and I am now a mother of 2 children, love them very much. But as I listen to your book I missed my days as a crazy dog spinster and being with dog.
What a fun book!!!

Wonderful comfort-listening for dog-lovers!
This quick quiz will tell you whether you'll enjoy this download: Do you a) talk through your dog in a doggy-voice? b) ever dress your dog in a puffa jacket or a specially purchased outfit like Captain Hook or Wonder Woman? c) give your dog a conical Happy Birthday hat to wear on his/her special day? d) send your dog a postcard or phone him/her (yes, really!) when you're on holiday? e) share your cute doggy pix on social media? f) love your dog more than many or even most of the humans in your life? If you've answered YES to one or more, you'll love it!
Miranda's little Peggy came into her life when she was at a very low ebb indeed, and this warm, moving, funny tale told in her inimitable way is the story how the fluffy little creature became the love of her life and taught her many valuable lessons about life along the way. Peggy wasn't love at first sight - there were early days when Miranda struggled with dog ownership, not to mention the 'apoo-calypses' before Peggy was house-trained. But Peggy wriggled her little self into Miranda's heart and she's not ashamed to admit to the mad-dog-woman antics she enjoys with her, or the deep comfort and healing she's derived from Peggy's devotion and dependence, sometimes just lying beside her feeling her breathe. (If you answered yes to f) above, you'll entirely get this last one!)
Miranda is consistently funny on a whole range of topics from the superiority of dogs over cats to the categories of dog-walkers she encounters. She muses on animal funerals - who would you invite? The neighbourhood dogs? Apart from all the funny bits, Miranda also invites us into her soul - all her struggles, fears and disappointments and analyses how Peggy's trust and love has brought her to greater understanding of herself, no longer in a dark abyss, but out in the sunlight.
