Publisher's Summary

Before Panic was our game, it was our secret. Before that, just a rumor. And before that? A ghost story. Listen close - but don’t believe everything you hear.

Panic is a legendary game played by graduating seniors in the middle-of-nowhere town of Carp, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher: After a series of challenges ranging from sleeping in a haunted house to running across a highway blindfolded, one winner takes home a cash prize in the tens of thousands at the end of the summer. Participating players are sworn to secrecy, which means little is known of Panic’s history. Until now.

Each of these three stories follows a former player connected to one of the game’s lingering mysteries - a ghost of Panic past, a legend. In this spellbinding novella, you’ll meet the quiet, unassuming kid who may have started it all; the golden boy who’d do anything to win; and the underestimated cheerleader who brought decades of family history into this dangerous game.

Panic: Ghosts and Legends is set in the world of the Amazon Original series Panic, available only on Amazon Prime Video.

A great story!

I wasn’t expecting much when I selected this book but was pleasantly surprised and couldn’t stop listening.
I liked all three narrators who really made it seem that they were telling a story that they had experienced.

Things we did as kids

Very realistic stories. Easy to get drawn in and remember the stuff we did.

Performed well, story is a bland way to kill a few hours

Nothing particularly interesting about this. “Stupid Kids doing stupid things: A Trilogy of Idiocy” would be an apt alternate title. Pretty much everyone in this collection is a moron, but I suppose that’s to be expected given the premise.

The first story was unremarkable, the second story was mind-numbingly irritating due to the braindead hero-worshipping nature of all the characters involved, and the last story was more interesting than the others, although cliche depictions of tired outdated views about what witchcraft is are a tad bit exhausting (though not entirely unrealistic considering where the story takes place). There was a lot of word salad in these stories; many instances of the author trying to sound interesting, smart, or profound, and it just coming out as convoluted nothingness. Ironically the speech about being “afraid of nothing” being a prime example of this.

The performers did a fair job, no complaints there.

I’d say this collection is more what you’d put on as background noise rather than listen to in an engaged way.

Great read, intense and satisfying! It was nice to hear some people get their comeuppance.

I did not understand this story.

The story was very confusing to me. I don't understand how the game came about, how it was played, and what happened to the people who won. But that is just me.

Dark and entertaining

I was browsing through Audible, not sure what I wanted to listen to next. Bought two different audiobooks, and started to listen to both, but they didn't match my mood.

Then I remembered that the originals are free, so I read the descriptions of a few before I decided on Panic. It turned out to be a great listen!

I like American high school dramas for some reason. And the darker, the better. This was right up my alley.

the myths that Oliver has created to supplement her story are spooky and well thought out.
