SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

Full of intimate stories, from chasing down secret love affairs to battling body image and struggling with familial strife, Pageboy is a love letter to the power of being seen. With this evocative and lyrical debut, Elliot Page captures the universal human experience of searching for ourselves and our place in this complicated world.

'Can I kiss you?' It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. The unthinkable. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he'd carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

With Juno's massive success, Elliot became one of the world's most beloved actors. His dreams were coming true, but the pressure to perform suffocated him. He was forced to play the part of the glossy young starlet, a role that made his skin crawl, on and off set. The career that had been an escape out of his reality and into a world of imagination was suddenly a nightmare. As he navigated criticism and abuse from some of the most powerful people in Hollywood, a past that snapped at his heels and a society dead set on forcing him into a binary, Elliot often stayed silent, unsure of what to do. Until enough was enough.

The Oscar-nominated star who captivated the world with his performance in Juno finally shares his story in a groundbreaking and inspiring memoir about love, family, fame - and stepping into who we truly are with strength, joy and connection.

Boring narration

I really want to make it through this story, but the struggle to get through the narration is difficult.
There are elements of an interesting story.
However the tone is very depressing, the narration dull and boring. The monotonous tone is sleep inducing.
If there was more variety and expression in the narrators voice the story would not be lost.

Beautiful, heartbreaking but somehow full of hope.

To feel so much love and care for someone I have never met and the people who have supported him is testament to Elliot’s writing and his raw recording of Pageboy. Thank you for sharing your story so far.

Wonderfully read and truly soul opening.

An essential read for all. Elliot tells his story with honesty and kindness. Gutwrenchingly sad at times, but with light and joy throughout.

Queer joy at last

Wow. Heartbreaking to hear how much Elliot suffered before having enough support to be himself 🌈

Elliot’s story is painful and beautiful

He writes so well, descriptive and inventive. Some of his stories, of Hollywood, love and childhood are unique and insightful. Others are all too relatable and Elliot has achieved his aim of making us feel less alone.

Beautiful

A beautifully written, often heart wrenching story, I finished in 2 days! For all those people who say ‘we don’t care, keep your business to yourself’, or ‘nobody cares, stop seeking attention’… you absolutely should care, and this book is full of reasons why, it would do those ignorant people the world of good if they actually sat down and read this book with empathy. But we all know that isn’t going to happen! If this book helps one kid who’s struggling and confused, or opens the eyes of the ignorant, I’m sure Elliot would say it’s all been worth it.

Painfully Dull

Didn't listen to all of this as the narration is terrible. For an actor, it was monotone and flat. Story of how he grew up an only child with not enough love and attention was sad but the whole story comes across as "boo hoo. Poor me" Sadly disappointed.

Disappointing & Poorly Written

Not amazing, I felt like it was just a collection of over detailed (in the wrong way) randomly recollected stories. The lack of chronology made for a jumbled journey through his life and didn't particuarly make sense as a whole piece of work. The writing was very poor with simple english and fleshed out with over detailed descriptions of locations which were not really relevant or neccessary in a memoir. There was also quite a number of mistakes, It's hard to believe this was proof read and edited. I was curious to finish it incase there was anything in it that he hadn't already spoken about, but there wasn't really. I had to put the real book down as it was so bad and switched to the audiobook which was read in a monotonous way by the author. He couldn't even bring his own story to life. Disappointing.

searingly raw and honest, I devoured this book

I wish anyone who didn't understand what it is to be trans could read/listen to this book. I wish all parents of trans kids would read this book so they can better understand the trans experience. Beyond elliot's trans journey this is a brutally honest account of growing up feeling unhappy and uncomfortable in your own skin which I think almost everyone can relate to. A wonderful book

something special

It is rare to come across uniqueness in our world with instantaneous updates and constant jumping back and forth between ever speeding band waggons. So when it occurs, boy is it obvious! Mr Page's biography writing style is wonderfully open and at the same time brutal - in the right way. There is something very powerful about hearing a biographer reading they're work, even more so when it is such an emotive life lead. I highly recommend NOT watching, reading or listening to OTHER people's opinions of this book - irony isn't dead 😄. Instead trust yourself to read or listen with whatever pre-information you have of Mr Page's work on the screen and let him tell you of his life to this point.
