The Fake Mate delivers the best of my two favourite worlds: a grumpy dark-haired doctor who-literally-howls to the moon, and the high stakes fake dating conundrum he's thrusted into. Make no mistake, Lana weaves fantastically the elements we love from a paranormal romance (namely, attractive shifters with extremely interesting drives), with the humour characteristic from the best contemporary rom-com you can get your hands on. This book is addictive, epically smutty and the breath of fresh air the romance genre didn't know it needed

There were so many layers of compelling storyline in this book. There was also flirting, fun, banter, angst, spice, love and romance. I particularly enjoyed how the MMC persued the FMC, it felt different from the norm - better.

I really like Lana Ferguson and have read (or listened to audio of) all her books. This one ended well, but I found it hard to warm up to. Perhaps the narration exaggerated the intent, but for hours we were dealing with a MFC who was waspish and harsh due to her unresolved childhood baggage. But it was to the point of being hard to listen to, especially for hours. At the same time, the smut felt like a contrivance - when you open with a sex scene, it somewhat feels like that is the only intent of the book…just lots of romping. The story did deepen and become enjoyable, but it took a while to get there.
