Publisher's Summary

Charles Hunter, a former United States Re-Con Marine working as an independent contractor with an international security outfit, reluctantly accepts an assignment to assist in the rescue of a widow and her eight-year-old daughter who were being held hostage by a gang of criminals in Venezuela. His reluctance had nothing to do with the nature of the job, he liked rescues, they made him feel heroic. It was returning to Venezuela, the circumstances of his leaving, and the pain he had caused the people he had left behind that worried him.

Minutes after Hunter hits the ground, he discovers the mission is not what he was told. Instead of rescuing the hostages, the operatives had been sent there to kill them! Why would anyone want to kill a young widow and an innocent child? Before the rest of the team can stop him, Hunter saves the child. He promises to reunite her with her family.

In order to keep his promise, Hunter reconnects with the people he left behind in Venezuela, including his former lover. Together they embark on a journey of thousands of miles, engage in dangerous encounters with assassins, and find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy of international dimensions.
