About this listen

Vicky is an outlier. An outlier in society, an outlier in the business world; she’s even an outlier in her own family. She knows that people find her weird and annoying, and she’s resigned to her loneliness until she sees him. Having never been attracted to any man before, her new obsession with burly, rough and ready Mike and the fact she can’t breathe when he’s close comes as a shock.

Unfortunately, Vicky’s cold beauty doesn’t appeal to Mike. The woman they call the Ice Princess is the opposite of his type, and her obvious crush irritates him. How many times does he have to make it clear he’s not interested before she gets the message?

But there are things about Vicky Mike doesn’t know. Reasons she behaves the way she does. Loneliness, vulnerability and kindness, that she keeps hidden. And information her family should have shared with him. So when the fireworks start, and she screams, he acts on instinct, pulling her body into his. And when she buries into his chest, shaking in fear, for some reason he’s not so annoyed by her anymore…

This is a full-length, enemies-to-lovers romance with a neurodiverse heroine and a grumpy but protective hero.

Trigger warnings for assault and mentions of child abuse and neglect.

I really enjoyed it. I always liked Vicki's character in the previous books. But it was not my favourite of the series. The way everyone treated Vicki was way over the top, I can't imagine someone with autism being treated so poorly by so many people. By one stupid person, maybe, but not practically everyone. It was still a great story, though, and I loved getting a glimpse of how difficult everyday life can be for those facing challenges such as this. The narator for Mike was so growly on audio, I loved it. And hearing him say 'good girl' . . . swoon! 😉

Awesome naration!

Perfect narration for these characters. The voice actors did a fantastic job and they sounded just as I pictured. While I don’t have autism myself, Vicky’s interior monologue felt so authentic. Such a beautiful story of loving someone just as they are.

Perfect narration

Loved the audio as much as I loved the book. Susie Tate has done a great job with this series.

This is by far the best book I’ve read all year! I would advise that people check the trigger warnings before they read this as child abuse, bullying and SA are within this story. As a mother of a child just like the female main character I cried all the way through this book. Susie Tate (my autistic child’s name is Tate……) represented autism in such a beautiful way. Her depth of understanding of the little things like checking the time and knowing how many minutes someone is late or early and touch aversion and eating food honestly had me in tears. While there was romance in this story it was also a survival story and a reminder that people don’t always know what goes on in someone’s mind or their life. I hope my child finds someone who can make him feel comfortable just like Mike did for Vicky. The narrators did a perfect job as always. While this is book 3 you can listen as a standalone but for the full effect I’d read the other two before this one.

This is a 6star read!
