'Do you need my help?' It was the first question he asked. They called him when they had nowhere else to turn.

As a boy Evan Smoak was taken from an orphanage. Raised and trained in a top secret programme, he was sent to bad places to do things the government denied ever happened. Then he broke with the programme, using what he'd learned to vanish. Now he helps the desperate and deserving. But someone's on his trail. Someone who knows his past and believes that the boy once known as Orphan X must die .

Fantastic reader, nails all the beats and voices.

The story itself is fantastic, taking a very real approach to espionage and human behaviour

Utterly Astounding

I really enjoyed this Audible. The story moved along quite quickly, had plenty of twists that made sense and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I would absolutely recommend this title, I’m off to see what else this author has to offer.

Original fast paced story

This was really good as an Audiobook. I can "read" books faster this way, particularly if they aren't so complicated that you have to go back over something. There was one point near the end when I thought that I had forgotten too much about someone, but I persisted and it was ok.
I will be recommending this to the males in my household.

Really good

Pretty cliché stuff but overall a great entertaining story, the narrator was great also but it just took me a while to get over his girl voices because, he sounded like a tranny 😂 but definitely gonna continue with this series

Not bad I'm hooked

To the apartment neighbours of Evan Smoak, he looks unremarkable and ineffectual and that is one of his greatest strengths. Evan is Orphan X, he was trained in assassination, combat, and spycraft from an early age before he walked away from the highly secretive, off-the-books government-sanctioned Orphan Program when it became clear the targets weren’t always the bad guys. Nowdays, he is The Nowhere Man, a highly skilled and heavily resourced vigilante who helps people in desperate need. However, while helping his latest client, things start to go wrong, and the first time in many years, Evan is having to play defense rather than offense. How do the armed men keep finding him and who can he trust?

Wow, this was such a wild and thrilling ride! I love action novels where the hero has no idea who to trust and this one delivered in spades. I enjoyed the establishing chapters where Evan is so seemingly innocuous and held slightly in contempt by his more forthright neighbours and I also enjoyed the pedal-to-the-metal chase chapters where Evan really shows off his skills and quick thinking. This is interspersed with interesting scenes from Evan’s past training and the ‘commandments’ drilled into him by his avuncular instructor. Can’t wait for more! 🎧 US voice artist Scott Brick gives a superb audio performance (currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue)!

Fantastic vigilante action with great narration!
